Hope the people arriving at Cardiff Central are told in good time to take any train to get to Newport for the Nottingham trains.
Interesting... passengers for Nottingham have been told that the train will be held for them, as the GWR from Swansea is delayed...

It's not hard to find the explanation - it's on the XC website travel updates page

Storm Brian is expected to bring strong winds to southern parts of England and across Wales this weekend. In order to keep customers and colleagues safe during the forecasted high winds, emergency speed restrictions have to be implemented.

A 50 mph speed restriction will be imposed between 10:00 and 18:00 on Saturday 21 October between Cardiff Central and Gloucester. As a result of this, the following alterations will apply:

  • Between 1000 and 1800 there will be no CrossCountry service between Cardiff Central and Newport.
  • Mutual ticket acceptance is in place with Arriva Trains Wales and Great Western Railway over any reasonable route.
  • Arriva Trains Wales will be running a severely reduced service between Newport and Cheltenham Spa, and some CrossCountry services will make additional calls at Caldicot, Chepstow and Lydney as a result.
  • Delays of up to 20 minutes are expected between Newport and Gloucester.
