I was trying to make some sense of the work going on at Lime St today, while riding out to Huyton and beyond.
Although it's hard to get an overall picture, with only a small spyhole in the metal fence at the concourse end, and the odd gap in the tunnel wall.
The platforms being reconstructed in the southern half (P7 and the 2 new ones) seem a long way from being usable.
P7 was being fully rebuilt at the throat end.
In the northern half, nothing at all seems to have been done to P3-6, and the two central disused sidings are still in place.
P1/2 are in use for the limited service via Huyton, using new signalling (LL plated) and the reversible Up Slow out to Edge Hill.
The platform starting signals look distinctly temporary.
The Down Slow, at least, has been renewed up to Edge Hill, and there are new crossovers between all the lines about half way up the hill.
You'd expect all lines up to the new crossovers, and maybe on to Wavertree, to be bi-di eventually.
As far as I could see, the old throat trackwork was still in place.
Presumably the throat at some stage will be renewed/simplified, with the final routeing performed on the new crossovers up the hill.
There is bright new tunnel/cutting lighting in place, but it looks temporary and might just be for the renewals project.
None of this really hints at what layout will emerge next Monday.
The station and trains were very quiet, and Upper Crust seems to have gone on holiday.
