crawled past OOC today in the twilight, track circuit failure!. It gave me time to see into the open doors of the Crossrail depot with the indoor lights on, I spied a 345!

Apparently there will be no 345s running this weekend, but I'm told they should be running the following weekend. If I can get any running information beforehand I will post here.

Doesn't really say much, I remember reading the CCTV story weeks ago. I wonder if that's really all it is? 315s are still regularly standing in for 345s like yesterday for example. If from 8 units they regularly can't even manage 3 in service, something's going to have to dramatically change before the end of next year when the core opens to Abbey Wood.

Good grief what kind of statement is that I'm sure they can sort out any issues in the next 12 months.

There are actually 5 in service, but two are on dedicated driver training diagrams, not in passenger service. Obviously those two take priority over passenger trains otherwise training all the drivers would take longer. One of those driver training diagrams is then the unit that runs to Bow Jn to act as a standby for the evening peak.

It will. The new timetable starts a couple of weeks earlier than usual this year because Gidea Park yard is being completely relayed to accommodate 9 car 345s. Given this is home to nearly half the fleet the diagrams are somewhat different. 345s could turn up unexpected.

345009, 345010 & 345011 were the three units out this evening. Can't quite remember which way round 009 & 010 were on the 16:36 & 16:50 departures from Liverpool Street, but 011 would have been on the 17:17.

The new timetable starts on the 27th November, and has a few tweaks to the peak service (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/tfl-rail/tfl-rail-timetables). It will be interesting to see if some of the other 345s start to be used regularly.

I notice, as I'd expect, they've increased the peak journey times - still not sure it's enough to match how long they actually take in reality from waiting for trains in front to terminate at Gidea Park, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

Saw a unit (didn't catch the number) in Wembley yard today with a load of graffiti scrawled on the side. Also I think it was unit 21 at Crewe.

Anyone have any idea what they're doing in their respective locations?

345015 is sat in Wembley at the moment. Keep trying to find out where it's destined to be, I'm guessing Ilford but lets wait and see.

Today 37601 took a 345 back to Crewe from Ilford. Seriously don't understand why all the shifting about considering that unit was delivered, why it's gone back to Crewe after delivery god only knows.

Regarding Maidenhead, as predicted, no 345 delivery today. Or yesterday. Or tomorrow. Or next week. Maybe next year perhaps.

Have they updated the door software on the 345.

On one and the doors literally close a second after the last person has /exited entered for that set of doors and stay released.

All the doors are closing at different times too.

The doors will close a predetermined number of seconds after they were opened - since the doors do not open automatically as per the tube, they will all have been opened at different times and thus, close at different times.
If they are not being locked, they will reopen if they detect an obstruction, if they are, they will of course attempt to close regardless. This seems to be the same as most EMUs to be honest, Electrostars included.
The only difference in functionality I've seen is that if someone presses the open button but does not actually pass through the door, it'll close again almost immediately rather than waiting the usual 30-45 seconds.

What I assume you're referring to here is that, the 'climate control door close' (i.e. closing on a timer rather than because the driver has initiated all doors be closed) does not cancel if someone walks out the door just before it happens, it will only cancel if they're passing through the doorway as the doors are actually closing.

I have been on them previously, yes they close after a certain period of time like the overground but was normally at least 5-10 seconds.

On this unit they were closing almost immediately after the last person alighted or boarded

This isn't something I've observed so I suspect it may be coincidence - if a person happens to board just before the timer expires, the doors will still close immediately afterwards, they will only stop if the person is boarding at the time the doors actually start moving

Does anyone reckon they will implement a "Doors will open automatically" in the tunnel sections of the stations like Thameslink does between Blackfriars and St Pancras International?

I really do like that feature that TL do as a regular TL user (Class 700 is an improvement to me over the 319s).

The main thing I'm thinking about is that the tunneled section on Crossrail has PEDs... Does that mean there will be an "Open door" button on them?

Sorry if this question has been asked before in another thread.

The fact that the core stations have PEDs almost guarantees that they'll all open and close simultaneously

About automatic doors or about an announcement telling people such? Automatic door opening with PEDs I expect is pretty much a given, an announcement though seems unlikely, given the anti-announcement-spam mentality the PIS on the 345s seems to have been designed with. If it doesn't even announce the interchanges on approach to a station, it probably won't spend time telling you the doors will open automatically either.

Well, what's the point? If people press the button when the door will open automatically anyway, that's not a problem. Some people may even like the reassurance.

A bigger concern would be 'what about above-ground stations where people may expect the doors to open automatically, but they don't.' But people seem to get the message that they have to open the doors manually already - and if one person doesn't get it, the person next to them will, and will probably press the button for them.
