But might I add how silly I think it is that the DfT asks the operators to have experience in operating high speed trains and infrastructure. No operator in the UK has that (except Eurostar for high speed trains, but not the other half), and it's pretty much asking for more of our railway revenue to go to these European operators who've already milked the pennies they can via Keolis, Abellio etc.
The set did look particularly ghostly when I saw 390010 sweeping through Prestbury in the dark the other evening. Nice of Virgin to come up with an appropriate livery in time for Halloween.New livery looks awful on the pendos. As white as a ghost!

I caught it this morning, working the 06:27 Manchester Piccadilly - Euston, via Birmingham, if anyone's curious enough to extrapolate what it's doing for the rest of the day. It's now got "Rethink Mental Illness' stick-on plates, and they're light blue.Has 390006 kept its name plates? (although they’re probably stickers now)
Thanks,
Ross
Does anyboby know which unit has replaced 390006 at Widnes?I caught it to work this morning. It's now got "Rethink Mental Illness' stick-on plates, and they're light blue.

I wonder if the sticker hides an unsightly indentation where the shield once was.. the crosscountry voyagers still have the odd shade of yellow where the shield once was which looks a bit tacky
Thank you390 009
Thank you
What is 691?
I would guess that it is 69109, the DMRF vehicle of the rake being repainted.
Just seen a photo of it on Twitter, looks miles better with the black window surrounds.390005 noted as in the new livery today and with the black stripe down the windows which i different to the others.

I have to agree. I saw the new non-livery at Stoke-on-Trent earlier this week. I think that a black or grey band around the carriage window would really make a positive difference. The current effect of all white, makes the carriages look very 'slab sided' and accentuates the very small windows...I saw this livery close up today for the first time - it's hideous - its like what a bare internal wall looks like when you strip it of existing wallpaper.
Aye, that helps. Though does nobody decide on a final livery beforehand these days? Though such criticisms were being voiced through the letters page of Modern Railways thirty years ago in response to sectorisation, so nothing new I guess.Just seen a photo of it on Twitter, looks miles better with the black window surrounds.

I saw one of the original repaint the other day and thought how awful it looked. Glad the window surrounds are back.Looks much better with the window surrounds. Will the 390s without them get them added or will they stay as they are?
