comparing the French national rail company or the German national rail company owning a British rail company and no one points out the stupidity of the whole thing..................

Might I point you to something I said previously in the thread?

But might I add how silly I think it is that the DfT asks the operators to have experience in operating high speed trains and infrastructure. No operator in the UK has that (except Eurostar for high speed trains, but not the other half), and it's pretty much asking for more of our railway revenue to go to these European operators who've already milked the pennies they can via Keolis, Abellio etc.

New livery looks awful on the pendos. As white as a ghost!

AGA seem to get the colour spot on

The set did look particularly ghostly when I saw 390010 sweeping through Prestbury in the dark the other evening. Nice of Virgin to come up with an appropriate livery in time for Halloween. ;)

Has 390006 kept its name plates? (although they’re probably stickers now)
Thanks,
Ross

I'm now waiting for Blackpool Pleasure Beach to sponsor a "ghost train" if/when the Blackpool service materialises!

I caught it this morning, working the 06:27 Manchester Piccadilly - Euston, via Birmingham, if anyone's curious enough to extrapolate what it's doing for the rest of the day. It's now got "Rethink Mental Illness' stick-on plates, and they're light blue.

390010 is working the 14:55 Manchester to Euston - just rode it as far as Stockport to put it on Pendolino CV:p

I saw this livery close up today for the first time - it's hideous - its like what a bare internal wall looks like when you strip it of existing wallpaper.

Saw 390006 at BHM earlier. Struggled to get much of an impression that close up - just it seems too white. I guess it will look more balanced with the next franchise.

390006 did start on the 0747 LPY-EUS but was terminated as were most other trains at Milton Keynes Central due to an incident in the Headstone Lane area. Its next movement is not known but it appeared later on the 1452 EDB-EUS via BHM.

I wonder if the sticker hides an unsightly indentation where the shield once was.. the crosscountry voyagers still have the odd shade of yellow where the shield once was which looks a bit tacky

the indentations have been smoothed over

Looks much better with the window surrounds. Will the 390s without them get them added or will they stay as they are?

Still looks quite frankly awful, but it looks a lot more complete now.

I think that's the most positive I can be.

That looks loads better. As I've said elsewhere white based liveries only work with a window band. Otherwise they just look like a white van from the factory running a cheap and nasty courier service, or somesuch.

I have to agree. I saw the new non-livery at Stoke-on-Trent earlier this week. I think that a black or grey band around the carriage window would really make a positive difference. The current effect of all white, makes the carriages look very 'slab sided' and accentuates the very small windows...

I saw one of the original repaint the other day and thought how awful it looked. Glad the window surrounds are back.

I also thought the matt Virgin vinyls on the unit ends looked poor. Gloss finish would have been much better.
