Alternatively they might just be the key to having enough serviceable units to run the services it already does. They might even manage to put enough carriages on the North Electrics to make people think they're not trying to rival the Indian Railways!
The North Electrics pretty much run 6 car all day (4tph on Helensburgh/Milngavie to Edinburgh anyway). The trains aren't heaving all day as some make out.

402 is definitely one, had 419 in my head for the other but could well be 418 as it's been a while. Off lease 31/12 to Scotrail as per plan - in theory enough "Bent" ones will be actually working by then to allow GA to fulfill diagrams.

You are right, 419, but seen noted that it and 402 on lease with AGA until February 2018 - delays with the bent ones the cause?

The 156 issue must have been resolved. On 430 with the new seats unfortunately

I've been told that the introduction of 380s onto E&G diagrams next month will result in 2 of the 'silver bullet' 158s being returned to the leasing company, which is something I hadn't heard about before.

Are these part of the eight Class 158s that are due to head over to Northern? They do need an awful lot of attention.

No there are at least 2 units with the new iron board seats as I was on a 4 car set the other week with both.

Would take that broken seat on the tatty Haymarket 158s any day over having to sit on what felt like a thin pipe under the seat, the last time I was on one. Just goes to show just how bad they are.

One of the 156s with the ironing board seats (510 iirc) made its way to Newcastle yesterday (8th). Is this the first time that a refurbished 156 has operated one of the Glasgow to Newcastle workings?

No. 510 has been plenty of times already.

The former Hull 170s are currently undergoing a refurbishment program to have their buffets removed to make way for extra seats. 170396 completed and back on the network.

Just out of interest, are those two Scotrail originals or are they ones brought in from other operators in the past?
Transferred from FGW to Scotrail around 2006/7. 871 appears to have had a short spell with Northern between FGW and Scotrail, not sure about 870.

Both look to be ex-Alphaline Wessex Trains.

Below is what I can find from a search on Flickr:

This pic (not mine) of 158870 shows it at Cardiff in 2004 with Alphaline: https://flic.kr/p/VBmsVR
This pic (not mine) shows it in 2010 at Haymarket wearing the Alphaline livery with ScotRail logo on it: https://flic.kr/p/851oLy

This pic (not mine) shows 158871 at Newport whilst working with Alphaline Wessex: https://flic.kr/p/oKQszJ

Interestingly, it looks like 871's been with Northern before. This pic (again, not mine) shows it at Huddersfield in 2008 with a small Northern logo under the first window behind the door: https://flic.kr/p/N2bUu8

These two are part of the so called Haymarket 8 batch, all of which were originally destined for Northern Rail from the start. After FGW Had finished with most of the Angel Trains leased units back in 2006 (& the DfT led rolling stock reduction started) most of these units ended up in storage in Eastleigh Works. They were then leased by Northern Rail but, ended up being subleased to First ScotRail who were at the time having a rolling stock shortage - IIRC They ended up arriving in the same year as the Fife Circle loco hauled diagram started as well. They ended up being on sublease until only a few years ago where they ended up remaining as part of the ScotRail fleet (and receiving the SpotRail livery at the same time). A Handful of them did however end up being repainted by Northern Rail into unbranded Northern purple by Neville Hill depot - one of those being very well travelled ex Central Trains / South West Trains 158879. (Not my pic)

Of note, they've had some alterations during their time with ScotRail - Miniature Snowploughs, Unbranded Northern / ScotRail livery, headlights changed and the bizarre re-seating scheme which saw the ex SWT units gain ex ATW Seats.

Reported elsewhere that it's 158870/871.

Deviating from 158s; a 318 is on it's way back North from Doncaster with another apparently due South tonight.

Looks like 158870/871 have finally left scotrail this morning. Wonder when the next units are due off lease to northern
