Class 678 doesn't exist yet. Are you able to see better into the future than the rest of us? Is Class 678 the new designation for the D-train when it eventually gets fitted with a warp drive? When this is officially announced, should we expect to see journey times from Inverness to Wick reduced to less than 10 minutes?

Wibble.

Ah Gus. Thank god you’re here.
I know it’s time for bed when you check in ;)...
I do think ‘Wibble’ is such a useful word in the world we inhabit.
May I offer you a cup of tea ..?

I have an alarming tendency to think that whenever I need to be up before about 6.30am that it's better to just not sleep. It has very rarely worked, so I'm trying it again tonight, knowing that after about half 5 I can get ready to go out.

Only just less than 200 minutes left...

Yes I am currently looking into my crystal ball and can see that class 678 is very successful. Their acceleration is so good that journey times from Inverness to Wick become so much faster to the point that they are shrunk to only 3 minutes.

The trouble is that my mobile data just ran out and our WiFi seems to be powered by one the kids hamsters (the slightly lethargic one who’s cage you have to nudge sometimes just to check that it still works *).
This means that I spend part of the time waiting for the WiFi to restart halfway through reading a thread. Apparently this is because our exchange/cabinet with ancient rubber clad wires etc is too far away to work properly, and because I don’t really understand how these things work I’m stuck with it.
Still. This wine’s nice .
You keep drinking that wine lol. O dear your copper cables must be as old as the Queen. I don't know where you live but have you looked into getting fibre optic broadband?

That usually works if you drink coffee I say. I am supposed to be going to my friend's house at 10 and it is also half 2 so I will definitely be needing some coffee later on after only sleeping a few hours

I absolutely hate coffee, also a downfall in my plan. I rely on this forum, social media, and keeping my light on usually, might go downstairs and make a cuppa in a couple of hours to get my through the last bit.

No way I can get to sleep at the normal time if I know I have to get up early, but I know I'm going to flake out anyway so I just go to bed an hour or so late and try to get a couple of hours.

Why don’t you just have half an hours snooze? I mean it can’t hurt can it?
Don’t worry about setting an alarm. You’ll wake up....

The clue’s very much in the title BP (It’s the Cowley near Exeter). Apparently we’ll be getting fibre optic one day but I’ll probably be at least 70 by the time it happens - We’ve been asking for it for years...

Well I’m off to bed now and I reckon Gus’ll be the last man standing probably. But that’s understandable as he’s in a different time zone up near the North Pole.
Night all.

To me,"Wibble", or perhaps "wubble", has its origins in the "Blackadder" series of television programmes. Asking Google to define "wibble" comes up with the following:
wibble
ˈwɪb(ə)l/
verb
BRITISHinformal
verb: wibble; 3rd person present: wibbles; past tense: wibbled; past participle: wibbled; gerund or present participle: wibbling
  1. 1.
    wobble; quiver.
  2. 2.
speak or write, especially at great length.

Nope, I'm a Brit just working and living 'the dream' in USA for a few years. However, I'm dying to get back into the rail industry. Somehow, buses and school buses just aren't as fun... I just can't put my finger on it.......

In my case I live in Dayton OH which is on EST or EDT so minus 5 hours on GMT - so sometimes I go to bed around 22.00 which is 03.00 in UK . As I post this it is 01.00 in the UK but I am just about to go out for dinner and drinks - cocktails and beer.

Oh man. Can I come? I’m just about ready for a cocktail...

Tonight I went to sleep at 10pm really pleased with myself for getting an early night for a change. After two hours sleep I woke up like I’d mainlined coffee and couldn’t get back to sleep.
By 2:30 am I decided that I was wasting my time just lying there and I might as well go and carry on painting the barn conversion that I’m working on at the moment...

3am found me parked at the top of a very steep lane near Stockleigh English contemplating the heap of broken car bits by the side of the road that weren’t there yesterday and looking down at what resembled a bob sleigh run.
I decided to get out and walk down the hill with my torch.
At this point though the van decided to start sliding past me as I was steadying myself on the ice and I just managed to jump back in and guide it onto a bit of road that wasn’t completely frozen solid.
New underpants needed at the moment.
I walked down the road a little way but I couldn’t even stand up so I had to reverse about half a mile before I could turn around and I’m now going home to think about what a massive idiot I am.

No idea how I’m getting to work tomorrow.

You're clearly okay, despite the requirement for replacement undergarments (and possibly a large drink) - is the van okay?

Yes thanks Gus. I pulled back from the point of no return.
Unfortunately I had a really strong coffee from the garage on the way there though (thinking that I’d be up for the day), I’m completely wired now.
I’m going to ring one of the other guys who’s working there in a bit as he’s got some kind of mighty four wheel drive pickup and will be able to pick me up and get down the very steep icy hill.
I walked a quarter of the way down it to where it gets even steeper and decided that if I was going to attempt it I’d call it ‘Operation Certain Death’.

In all seriousness if anyone is out driving this morning be very very careful.

I hadn't realised it was so bad down south. I was in Nairn over the weekend, and there was perhaps an inch and half of snow (and a very frozen pond), but as I was coming back home, the whiteness disappeared. It's not even frosty - maybe there is a microclimate here after all.

Hope you are safe mate. Its not been too bad in Liverpool, quite mild. Scariest thing was an RAF Typhoon flying down the Mersey last night. Ha ha. Very loud. My ex had it bad in Shrewsbury, people we deal with nearby in RAF Shawbury had it bad, coldest place in the country at about -13 degrees!

Take care mate anyway, hope you are well.

I live about 5 miles from the end of the runway at RAF Lossiemouth, so I'm used to the sound of Typhoons. Most of their flying tend to be done Monday to Friday, but you do get the occasional exercise that requires night flying, but they usually publicise these in advance. Every now and again you know that the Russians have strayed a bit too close, because you'll get two jets taking off and heading north like bats out of hell.
