On numerous transport forums, including this one, I have encountered the phrase "veg frothing" or sometimes just "veg". What is meant by this, is it some sort of technical term?

Following on from 43125. How to describe this? Hmm.
Veg: Maybe a member of the enthusiast community. Frequently seen staring at some piece of railway item be it a locomotive/Pacer/signalling equipment/rusty siding or other.
Often seen in large groups staring out of a mk1 window at any diesel/steam/DMU gala etc.
A mainline enthusiasts railtour is sometimes also known as a Vegex (just to put the word into context).
Frothing (you could also have Foaming): A moment of extreme excitement of an animated nature from the aforementioned Veg when something out of the ordinary occurs, like when a 142 turns up on a Pendolino diagram perhaps, or a locomotive gets painted into the wrong shade of Brunswick Green or someone thinks about replacing the Napier engines in a preserved Deltic with a pair of MTUs.
Reading the above. I think I’m one...
Hope this helps.
Blimey, it seems I too must suffer from that same condition
There’s not much you can do about it.
You can’t ‘unlearn’ lots of pointless details about trains...
I heard a good one on the radio today.
You know those people that when you’re on say, a DMU at a gala? And you’re having a conversation with each other that someone you don’t know in a seat next to you overhears, and joins in to correct you on a minor technical detail?
They’re called Nerds of Prey .
I don’t know and it’s not important right now, but the maximum design speed of a 73/0 is 75mph and a 73/1 is 95.Ha ha, love it! Btw. what type were those vans that the DMUs were hauling at the ELR Gala?

Brilliant. Or those who just join in with your conversation regardless.
I must confess to knowing far too much about traction and brake systems... help...
I'd got the impression that 'vegetation' was the process of taking root on a platform end.

I often hear the word 'foamer' used in place of Veg.
A good term but my favorite is jizzing themselves silly.
Metrophile! I love it. Haha. I am tempted to add that to my signature....There are certainly worst names for our hobby, like a ferroequinologist or even dodgier sounding Metrophille

Ladies, so I hear, can also be trainspotters these days you know
Derogatory term for some of the more clueless people involved in this hobby. Other terms are available....On numerous transport forums, including this one, I have encountered the phrase "veg frothing" or sometimes just "veg". What is meant by this, is it some sort of technical term?
