Won’t be a 172 until the Nuneaton branch has one.

That line does need extra capacity at the peak times. ‘Sardine’ conditions is an accurate description. Even on the tube you have space to breathe at rush hour!

Fair point on the XC being full. Whether the passengers will appreciate a downgrade to a dogbox is another matter. What proportion travel onwards from Leamington or do they all get off?

I got on the 08xx Coventry arrival from Nuneaton not long ago. Only just squeezed everyone in the door at Bedworth!

Yes that’s spot on! Fridays see some relief from the daily squeeze.

The 7:37 departure off Nuneaton is the worst. Regularly leaves a few people behind at Bedworth. The bikes are the worst part though and seem to cause the most delays as cyclists board and alight at the intermediate stations. Cue half a dozen people getting off to let the bike off!

10 people in No.2 end vestibule is the record. Zero chance of being able to get out of the cab in an emergency unless a dukes of hazard approach is taken!

There is now a shiny new sign up a pole outside the building site with the arrows of indecision emblazoned upon it. The snow should have melted off it by now.

No point doubling it. Too expensive for little/no gain

*the station and theoretical loop that is

You need it for growth though, you cannot get a second XC or any extra freight along there without doubling Kenilworth to Milverton.

I didn’t know that - was there any plan to do either of those things?

Pretty sure Milverton Kenilworth got to GRIP2 before people baulked at the cost but it never goes away and dies.

From 5:02 to 5:05 you can catch a glimpse of Kenilworth's original station building on the left of Station Road. The new (third) building looks tantalisingly complete from the outside. Train services are now showing up ad uncancelled 'Unadvertised Ordinary Passenger' from Saturday 6th January 2018 so perhaps..?

Is the issue a lack of trains or the station itself not being ready?

If its the latter why not just run the LM trains non stop through Kenilworth and provided improved links between Leamington and Coventry?

The station is not ready yet. I believe WMR are using the time to train drivers and conductors.

Good idea to run the trains non stop but you wouldn’t want Leamington and Coventry travellers getting used to it to the point when it starts stopping at Kenilworth there’s no room for anyone to get on there!

Do we know what type of train is being provided for this service? Class 153 or something more?

In terms of passengers at Kenilworth I cannot belive they would they biggest gnerator of traffic compared to flows between Coventry and Leamington. Clearly an appropriate train for the percieved demand is needed.

Dog box with a 172 at some point later. I still think a lot of people will still go to Tile Hill myself.

Will be interesting to see the dynamic. The hourly service does manage decent connections on paper each way with one of the hourly Pendolinos, giving a journey time of c. 37 minutes each way to New St. But on the return there's the 'risk' of the hourly connection being missed, and schlepping over the bridge to Platform 4.

The fare differential will also by key. But I'd reckon most of the demand on the new service will actually be between Coventry and Leamington, especially as it gives a decent connection at Leam into the via Solihill XC for Oxford, Reading etc.

Class 153’s will be used until the end of 2018 when they are cascaded to EMT.....apparently. The LO 172’s will then take over the route.

The line will be worked by Coventry crews as it stands.

Interestingly the timetable seems to favour Leamington based crews with the first and last trains of the day operating to / from there.

I believe this is because it was originally going to be Leamington Spa crew. But I have heard it is definitely Coventry crews. Not enough staff available at Leamington Spa which is already stretched (I could be wrong, just what I was told)

Therefore pre set timetable works how it did for if it was LMS crew.

Interestingly, I noticed at 5:38 and 8:00 minutes in the video the signage looks to be NR signage rather than from WMT, who I assumed would be managing the station?

I guess at the time Network Rail didn't know if WMT would be changing the signage so went for "operator neutral" branding.

According to RTT there are services scheduled hourly for 19th Feb and it looks like training is going on up until then?

It could all be delayed again, so personally I'll wait for an announcement.

Is the line still being doubled at all or any loops put in?
