Ex GC HST's, 43465 + 43484 worked a 0742 Heaton Depot / Neville Hill transfer on Monday 1st January 2018.

This is the first former 'Grand Central HST' to be transferred from Heaton with the remaining two planned to operate later in the week. These will now be under the ownership of East Midlands Trains.

Prior to this transfer, all Grand Central logos were removed from the set with the exception of the rear power car, 43484.

To be clear, ownership is not with East Midlands Trains. They are owned by Angel Trains, who now lease them to EMT. There is a big difference.

I wonder if there is any difference to driving these as they have the MTU 16V4000 rather than the 12VP185 Paxman as the rest of the EMT fleet, although given that one set is iirc on loan to VTEC (who also only have MTU engine variants) I suppose it's not really an issue.

Will EMT take advantage of the surplus MK3 coaches now stored at Ely to extend existing and ex GC HST formations ?
8 coach formations would be useful to appease customers who want improved capacity prior to 2020.

Might be an issue with platform lengths & associated signalling & points etc as that becomes 10 coach if you include the power cars

A gentle reminder that the discussion around the withdrawal of the GC HSTs and their future can be found here.
