Well hopefully today went well. Nearly giggles at the last test trying to count the times and mark the double symbols.

Hope it goes well for everyone this week

So is the next course in June???

I believe it is indeed planned for June, from what I was told in my DMI. I expect March is now full, as I wasn’t offered that course. :)

Sweet!!! I hope I get through to that one. Although I’d have to find something to do for a few months as I finish my current job in March

So the medical isn't as straightforward as I'd assumed. Seems my ECG need to be forwarded to a cardiologist! I thought I'd done the hard bit but it seems I could fail at the final hurdle

Oh no! Hope it all gets sorted for you very shortly. It could very well just be a precaution though, so I hope you get the all clear soon. :)

Was everything else okay?

Was your blood pressure ok? Medicals can be tough sometimes

Hopefully will get sorted ASAP

I wouldnt worry too much just yet....I had an ECG in my old job and had to see the GP then the Cardiologist. After further test I was told the original nurse who did the ECG had simply put one of the pads in the wrong place!

Passed everything else, just the ECG. I'm not sure what the problem is, I'm fit and healthy otherwise so it's a bit frustrating.

Mine also had to go to the cardiologist because the ECG machine declared that there was an anomoly, even though the doctor said it looked fine. The cardiologist declared it "unclear" and asked for the ECG to be done again - they got me booked in again within the hour, and fortunately (after a bit of persistence with moving pads around!) everything was okay that time. By then, I only had a couple of days before the very latest that I could hand my notice in, but I can't fault how well they handled it to get it all sorted once the cardiologist came back with the original.

With regards to the urine screening that gets sent away to be tested, does anyone know roughly how long it takes for the results to come back? How do they let us know that you have passed the urine test and have the green light for the course and handing your notice in?

Good luck all!

Took couple of days for the urine test to come back for me and the results were via a phonecall. They email those results to recruitment at EMT who I spoke to the following day and confirmed that the notice could go in.
Best of luck to you all

Good luck stjimmy87, and everyone else too! :)

You're in for a real intense, tiring and emotional rollercoaster of a process over the coming months but if it's anything like mine, EMT will do a grand job of keeping you all informed every step of the way, and the reward of landing in the Talent Pool at the end of it will be the greatest feeling! (Until you get your start date anyway )

Stjimmy87, just so you don’t get too excited over the weekend or early next week, I’m in for stage 1 on Monday, so I’m not sure when you’ll hear how you’ve done.
Im quite envious of all those who have passed and I’m not sure if I’m more nervous or excited, just to actually get through the sift and have a go at these tests.
Either way, I’ll be practising this weekend for sure.
Good luck for tomorrow stjimmy87.

For all the hopefuls going through stage 1 at the moment, if the timelines are anything like ours who have just completed the process, expect to be informed if you are successful at each stage once all of the candidates have completed that stage. Therefore if you take it on Monday and the final one is on Friday, expect to wait a week until you hear (just so you don’t start to panic due to a lack of an email). Also, EMT have been incredibly efficient throughout the assessments just passed, if they gave you dates for when each stage is taking place, expect them to be bang on those dates. With that in mind, take a look and practice the next stage whilst you wait to hear.

As Dynamonic said, the process is intense, it is stressful and it is an emotional rollercoaster. Make sure you keep calm under pressure because that of course is an essential trait train drivers need to possess.

Good luck!

The ones I printed out had 26 lines on them, either way I'm averaging about 10.
Not wanting to ask a stupid question, but I downloaded 2 lots of practice dots tests. One of them said 30 seconds, the other said a minute! Obviously I got twice as far in a minute, but how long do you actually get in the real tests?

2 mins.

Way i practiced was with the same sheet 4 times. I photocopied them out of the "how to become a train driver" books.
I turned each one 90 degrees, so essentially i had 4 different sheets.
I then set up the stopwatch on my phone.
I then hammered all 4 sheets, pressing the "lap" every time i got to the end of the sheet.
To mark them then was easy as you just returned them all the right way up and analysed any differences between the sheets.
My "laptimes" ie time per sheet, and overall times, as well as mistakes made could then be compared.
I did this literally hundreds of times.
Did i improve?
There was a 1-2% improvement in time from first time to last as my eyes got more used to the shapes.
My laptimes remained constant as i was able to remain in a state of concentration.
What was noticeable was the increase in mistakes if i was distracted - if the cat jumped on the desk or i had a swig of tea or something.
Conclusion - practice has limited value. If you can't concentrate then you will make mistakes and won't pass. Simple.

Is that 2 mins for 4 sheets in the actual test?

Hi guys,

Sorry to hijack your thread, well done to the guys that have made it through so far. I’m just after some advice on the OPC stage two assessments and confirmation if I am on the right track.

I am taking the below tests in a few weeks for another TOC:

- 2 Hand coordination test
- ATAVT perception test (I think this is the traffic test where you get a second to say what you’ve seen?)
- WAFV Vigilance test
- CBI interview
- DMI interview

I took the CBI/MMI interview in 2014 and was just wondering if it’s changed much? I’ve prepared for the below questions based on my notes from a few years ago:

- Achievement
- Rules and Procedures
- Completing task to high level
- Performing task with no errors
- Dealing with an emergency situation
- Working alone

Would you prepare for any others? I think nerves are getting the better of me, that’s why I’ve come on here to do more digging. I shouldn’t worry as much, but I can’t help it!!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, if you scroll back through the thread you'll find pretty much all the info you need, and more.
Don't get too worked up about the process though, the tests are straightforward and you can either do them or you can't. The interviews are also straightforward, the best way is to have a few different answers to each potential question. Good luck.

There's a batch of questions, i prepared for hundreds of hours for the mmi and read every thread on here about the mmi, and still a question came up i hadn't prepared for.

Yeah I can imagine, I don’t want to over prepare. From what I’ve read am I right in thinking you get roughly 30 minutes to answer the questions/make notes and the interviewer goes through them?

Yeah, you’ll get plenty of time to answer the questions on paper at the start, then they will be combined with your Situational Judgement Exercise (SJE) answers to determine the direction of your Multi-Modal Interview. :)

So the medical isn't as straightforward as I'd assumed. Seems my ECG need to be forwarded to a cardiologist! I thought I'd done the hard bit but it seems I could fail at the final hurdle

Unfortunately this is common, although the good news is that it's almost certainly nothing to worry about and is just a minor variation which needs checking to make sure it's not symptomatic of anything more serious. It's very frustrating but you'll probably fine. I do recommend you keep any paperwork you're given by the cardiologist (if any - you may not see it) as it will smooth your way through any further medicals if you take it with you.

Might be frustrating but they could of potentially developed something that could maybe save your life. Hopefully it is nothing and gets all sorted though fingers crossed for you.
