I've also heard a story from quite a few years ago which is someone asking for an reprint of a worn out or demagged annual season between Edinburgh and Charing Cross and getting presented with nine months of unlimited travel between Edinburgh and London Terminals. Tempting you would think, but not much use for getting to work in Glasgow every day.

I'd probably have quit the job, or at least asked for a long sabbatical .....

Clapham to Clapham Jcn.

A friend of mine from Clapham (the proper one, North Yorks) was always having trouble with grippers when departing from Euston.

I assumed, in my ignorance, that Uttoxeter was long closed.

Whilst not the busiest station on the network, the fact it’s adjacent to Uttoxeter race course, and the closest station to both Alton Towers & the JCB factory, it’s certainly not quiet.

A 153 calls hourly, cosy on a race day:lol:

And for English speakers, there is always the option of a trip to Hell in Norway - however the German one is better as it makes sense in its own language.

I can't do the Polish accents on letters; but Poland has a station called Hel (one "l") -- a Baltic seaside resort.

The now-closed line from Wolsztyn to Sulechow had, when operational, an intermediate station called Zodyn. The thought has occurred, that if a citizen of that community chose to spend their summer holiday at the abovementioned resort, and went by train: the names printed on their ticket would approximate to a medium-profane English imprecation.

Southampton to Northampton is a longer journey than some might expect. There was a story recently about a traveller in London who found he/she had just missed a bus to Southampton. Rather charmingly this person saw a bus to Northampton departing soon after and caught it on the basis he/she could get off when it reached Hampton and walk the rest of the way.

Three Oaks to Four Oaks, travelling via Sevenoaks.
I used to buy a ticket from Three Oaks to Four Oaks to do a journey from Birmingham to Ashford (Int’l) as it was the same price. Didn’t travel via Sevenoaks though as the route included travel on HS1.

In the Netherlands we have a Barendrecht, Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht. There is also a Zwijndrecht in Belgium. There is also a Bedum, Stedum and Loppersum. Of course there is an Essen in Belgium and Germany.

Stratford to Stratford International
Realistically, would anyone make that journey? Even by DLR it's sometimes quicker to walk.

I've never thought of that but it sounds like a good idea. It would be harder for the guard to accuse me of attempted fare evasion if I have deliberately sought them and attempted to explain the situation.
The customer was not actually accused of fare evasion in this case; reporting someone for suspected fare evasion would require recording their details and passing these onto the prosecutions department.

I agree that seeking the guard can often result in leniency when asking for favours, but there is no guarantee that a Guard will accept either a valid fare or a fare that has been authorised as valid for travel by another authorised person.

Causing it to breach a contract, perhaps, and only if they’re telling the truth.
In the situation described there is a risk of a breach of not just contract law but also consumer law.

Train companies do need to take their responsibilities seriously and ensure that sufficient safeguards are in place.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
One that comes to mind is Davenport (Cheshire/Greater Manchester) to Devonport (Devon).

Also a tripartite possibility of Springfield (Fife), Springburn (Glasgow), and Spring Road (Birmingham).

One I have thought about for Welsh speakers here: Pen-y-Bont (Powys/ former London & North Western Railway section of the Heart of Wales line) to Pen-y-Bont (Mid Glamorgan/ former Great Western Railway South Wales Main Line). Can anybody guess the Mid Glamorgan one?

Some fare dodgers from stations further afield make use of that journey as the DLR station at Stratford International hasn't got ticket barriers (similar Stratford High Street);)
