Hi All,

I am new to the group, So Hello to you all.

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a post on the site or an external link, if thats allowed, regarding details of what a Depot drivers duties would be. I know this may sound silly but I really cant find any information. Train drivers yes but not specifically for Depot Drivers.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Search for the East Midlands trainee depot driver thread, there's tons of info on that.

Ah....my Alma Mater!!!

Southend Depot Drivers are responsible for the shunting, coupling, uncoupling, prepping for service (including shunting so that trains can be cleaned by cleaners internally and through the wash to make them all clean and shiney externally) and any faffing about with formations of trains required. Mainliners can occaisionally be dragged screaming out of the Messroom to do their booked shunts but it’s the DD who really do all the work.

In time you will be taught how to operate the Fringe Shunting Panel to signal shunting moves within station limits and the delights of how to deal with the whims of Control by organising the day and night’s shunting as nominated Panel Operator and control those shunts into and out of the 4 sidings and 4 platforms.

And if you can find time to weed the Depot garden and feed the rats, jobs a good ‘un.
