I've got spellings set up for my class, and I'm using mail merge to add the names of children in my class to the sheets with varying numbers of spellings.

I have 6 children who learn six spellings, 14 who learn twelve spellings, and 9 who learn 18 spellings. Whenever I print these off, it does them in the order of 18, 14 and 6. Annoyingly, the 18 and 14 spellings continue to print blank sheets until all of the 6 spellings are printed. Is there a way to stop this happening?

There is a known format issue with Word and mail merges which generates blank sheets at the end of some instances; the way I get round it at work is to physically delete the blank sheets before pressing the print button.

It doesn't have blank sheets, it just continues to print the spelling sheets with blank names until the final set of six spellings has finished printing.

Assuming you've set up the spellings as a "merge field" that's a manifestation of the same glitch and it should be possible to manually delete the pages before you print.

By which I mean scroll down the whole print draft and then highlight and "backspace" over the ones you don't want.

I was going mention you may wish to, if you're not already, make use of the "Edit Individual Documents" so you know what will print before it starts using paper etc.

Ah, ok. The reason I started doing mail merge was to get away from printing off random pieces of paper, but that seems to not have worked!! Thank you

Thank you. I’ll have to do that on Monday I think!

I quite often find at work that doing a mail merge results in a dozen extra blank letters at the end of the run if I don't manually remove them first! Similarly on labels with identification parameters set in, the parameters will print in full on every label on the final sheet of a merge even if only three or four labels on that sheet actually have details to print!
