Who really cares just a meaningless marketing name like Azuma, Pioneer etc. which will likely disappear when the franchise changes or the trains move elsewhere.

I think they should have gone for branding of each service rather than the rolling stock. The Nova brand make me instantly think of the 80s car as mentioned by other posters.
So TPE NW services could be something like the Consociation services (metaphor for connection of Scotland & England)
The TPE North could be the Zenith services (metaphor for summit of the Pennines).
The TPE South could be Pathfinder services.

Just a suggestion really as an alternative to Nova.

The Nova branding actually makes marketing sense, they are attempting to tie the three designs together in the customer consciousness and portray it as one integrated customer improvement programme, it would be confusing for the layman that they are introducing THREE new classes and attempt to maintain individual branding and promotion for each of them.

I agree, though they could have done better simply by referring to them all as the 'Nova' brand. There really isn't any need for distinctions between traction classes for the average passenger, they're all suitably similar.

Northern/CAF also plan to name their 195/331s. Name will be announced within next few months.

I am puzzled that the numbering scheme is the inverse of the introduction date (Nova 3, 2, 1 in that order) unless its supposed to reference the countdown for rocket launch as part of a wider theme of space exploration set by their star logo. They are also arguably numbered in inverse order of technical sophistication, which prevents a logical continuation of the numbering scheme as better trains become available.

The mk5 carriages and DVT will be capable of running at 125mph and being powered by diesel or electric, it's the 68 on the front of them which won't be.

Someone please vinyl wrap a 'Max Powered' Vauxhall Nova in the TPE livery for the press launch!

I hope the launch event involves complimentary sparkling white wine served aboard a double headed Nova3. It would be a champagne supernova. Maybe a well known Mancunian band will re-form against all the odds to play at the event?

Ha ha. I'm not sure using a tepid middle of the road rock band from Manchester is the best way to launch a brand.

Also means 'new' in Portuguese (fem), so swings and roundabouts I guess.

No va means, pretty much, he/she it doesn't go - as in a person or animal moving. The original verb - ir - isn't really used in Spanish in the same way as the English go after that. You'd probably use marchar to describe a car or train moving (or otherwise). So while it's an accurate translation of the two seperate words, it's not an entirely accurate application in Spanish. And, while we're at it, the Spanish word for nova is...nova.

I've always thought the Vauxhall thing was apocryphal anyway.

If it's The Smiths you're on about, I can't see it happening, mainly because Morrissey might see the 68 and decry that "Diesel is murder".

Perhaps the top and tail Mark 3 sets will be branded as Chevette?
