Is there going to be one with a league table?

Thanks very much Mojo, and for last year's. I achieved my highest last year but it will not be so high this year due to not doing an ALR. All my mileage is leisure as I do not commute.

I'm now up to 882 miles for the year, thanks to a Saveaway day with djpontrack on Friday and a day trip to Sheffield with my partner yesterday.

I'm planning to do two more Northern Day Rangers very soon before the offer expires, so they should get me over the 1,000 mile mark.

After my two Northern Day Rangers this week I've passed the 1,000 mile mark for this year, with a current total of 1,482 miles.

I've got well behind on keeping track of my mileage again  Perhaps I'd better join in this year to encourage me to try and keep up!
In the last couple of years I have said the same to myself. I keep a written record but when it comes to transferring them onto the computer, I quickly lose patience.

I clock just over 1000 miles a week on my commutes, so around 50k a year, but have done very little in respect of leisure travel recently.

Another update from me, now up to 1,772 miles for the year which I'm fairly happy with.

I'm aiming to clear 2,000 miles before I go back to work.

A few years back I wrote everything down using a spreadsheet on a rather pre-historic version of a smartphone which was easily uploaded onto the PC and converted to excel but since that died I have reverted to pen and paper and, like you, I sometimes loose the will to live typing it all out again on a PC.

More recently, I have persisted with the pen and paper method but tried to update the spreadsheet on a smartphone as I go along which seems to be working fairly well; it does help that I no longer commute so am saved the tedium of writing the same thing over and over again all year but it does mean that I now spend ages working all the distances out. I'm doing quite well for this year so far and will do a rather large update shortly but still need to work out some mileages (kms ;)) going back a good year or more

Does anyone know of a reliable mileage measuring site for European (continental) journeys? I'll be doing a big Interrail trip this summer so I definitely want to count that...

Try http://raildar.fr/osrm/#10/48.7489/2.6189 , there are two pins around the Paris area and you can drag them to wherever you want. It's a bit fiddly as you need to zoom in and place them exactly on the start and end points and carefully check which route it takes as it usually chooses the shortest one which might not be the correct one; this also means that you have to be paying attention when you are travelling!

Watch out for "turn errors" denoted by a red dot which means that the route has doubled back on itself and added more kms, these can sometimes be corrected by moving the pin across a couple of tracks or so. It is also possible to force a route in a certain direction by using the "add via" button at the bottom of the text on the right hand side.

I mostly use this tool in conjuction with a number of other resources such as books, maps and official railway distances that I have acquired over the years.

Anyone got Mileage details for Nottingham Trams and the Birmingham extension of Midland Metro?

Apart from that up to 1,906 miles already, not bad considering it's all for leisure...

So far this year 5,410 (helped with a recent ALR). I've already surpassed last years total.

I'm thinking about doing another ALR early Sept, well planning it in my head:D:D, it's more like funds permitting:(:(.

Does anyone have mileage data for Preserved Railways? Specifically the East Lancs Railway.

Do you have a PRIV, or how else do you afford that much travel?! I hope you're not including business travel

No priv, nor no business either! I’m an 18 year old student who normally does one or two rovers a month, plus regular commuting by rail.

EDIT: Just realised it’s a mere 11549mi this year. 13k is all time!

RailMiles linked below if you’re interested!

Up to 12000 miles for the year now - no PRIV or business travel.

Planning to do a North West Rover in the summer so that should boost me up a bit!

4,264 miles for the year so far, still got to add up the totals from 2 days at the Severn Valley for the diesel gala, a trip to the North Norfolk and a couple of outstanding light rail mileages.

Does anyone have accurate distances for the Dutch Rail Network? Specifically: Utrecht Centraal to Leeuwarden and Leeuwarden to Stavoren.
www.raildar.fr/osrm is a useful tool for determining railway mileages (or is it kilometerages?!) across the globe. It has virtually all rail networks mapped out. It sometimes struggles to work out the correct routeing, sending you on a massive detour, but I find if you split it up into chunks then generally it works quite well.

It's how I measured the mileages for all of my InterRail trip!

Just found another way of measuring, on www.mapy.cz. Click where you want to start and where you want to finish then drag the line to follow the track. Works best for shorter journeys as it's a bit painstaking to map very long distances but it's a good alternative for things like preserved lines and freight branches which raildar can't always cope with. It's also easier to find and follow railways than Google Earth which I have used previously.

I can't get the website to work. I might need some assistance (possibly PM).
