Can anyone say definitively how many units have gone, how many more to go, and when?
2 x 158 and 4 x 170 have gone so far. There’s 6 more 158s, 12 more 170s and 5 156s still to go - all to Northern. There are also 5 extra 156s to go, but they do not have any future homes agreed as yet.

That's going to make things fun, not o_O

It's probably been mentioned before in the depths of this thread, or possibly the Northern rolling stock changes thread, but are you aware of any dates for the units to cascade to Northern?

I think 10 is enough for all E-G peak to be 8-car plus some spare units. Definitely not enough for the Edinburgh via Cumbernauld nor Alloa or Dunblane services though.
Deviating briefly to the topic of another thread, when are these routes due to go electric?

Add in Shotts about the same time and the pressure will be on to find EMUs. Even if deliveries of 385s start in the next couple of months there may be a period where there is a shortfall in stock.

Exactly, it's going to be a right mess. I can see the Diesel Units that are left covering electrified routes for a while yet.

The ScotRail franchise agreement - as published on the Transport Scotland website - says they all go by the end of this year. Worth noting that the first 385s were due last summer and the first HSTs were due June this year.

Well hopefully we will get the HSTs by the end of the year at the very least.

Have I missed a new rule where it's mandatory to reply to every...single...post on every...single...thread? Anyway...

I would hope ScotRail are negotiating an extension to the 5 unhomed 156s. Grab anything they can and all that.

But they can't lose that many 158s and 170s without some kind of stopgap.

Are they going to Northern to replace Pacers? Because if so telling Northern to keep the Pacers seems a reasonable plan. I speak as a Northern customer BTW.

Are they even up yet?

Anything north of the Larbert area has next to no wires. In theory, I think the E-G via Cumbernauld entire line could be live by December but there isn’t really much demand for that so I doubt it’ll be running any time this year.

I'm not sure there really is much demand for the service as planned

I like the new ones tbh. They're at perfect laptop height to the table.

I was on one of the new 156s and the table seemed a bit low to my knees , seats are upright compared to the old . You will get used to them in time . The green seats were on the SPT liveried 156s .

There’s something doesn’t quite add up already in those numbers. If only 6 DMUs have left the fleet so far, that’s only 5 less in daily service, and there’s been at least 4 EMUs in daily service on E&G. So very little justification for any short forming to date.

Admittedly it’s going to get worse very soon.

the tables are the same height as the old ones. Its the seat bases that are higher, thus the reduced leg room. Has been pointed out many times by plenty of us staff, and complaints from passengers but seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

The leg room and cushioning are a significant step down in comfort.

Yep thats it the seat bases . The current seats are pretty comfortable , the 170s still beats it

Finally scored my first 380 on the E&G tonight and was impressed with the acceleration out of Queen Street. Interesting to see the Conductor signal the train off with a green flag. He told us this is only done at Queen Street.

Somewhere earlier in the thread it was suggested that getting paths between Shields depot and the E&G was one of the factors inhibiting the deployment of more 380s as an interim measure. Which route is taken for these moves?

It is a pain in the neck. A Queen St driver takes it via Bellgrove to Hyndland loop where a Yoker driver is picked up and route conducts via central low level and Rutherglen to Shields Depot. They then hang about until the new train is ready and do it all in reverse. It takes 4 hours all in and that's just one train. It's very wasteful of resources
