Hi Folks,

I remember watching the aforementioned TV Drama series when it aired in 1999, and recently again on YouTube (all 6 parts - although the only rail related theme is in Episode 1 for about 30 minutes).

It's about survivors on board a train which survive an asteroid strike, and emerge into a changed world from a tunnel after being cryogenically frozen for some time.

A couple of questions just out of curiosity:

■ What railway was the scenes on the train filmed?.
■ The tunnel where the survivors are seen emerging from the wreckage, and later into a changed world. Was it an actual tunnel or a set?.
■ During the course of the train journey, many run pasts are seen, I would assume these were just scheduled services on the mainline being filmed.
■ In the last episode, ARK is an abandoned power station, would this have been Thorpe Marsh?.

I still find it amusing how the train service which features in the series is travelling from St. Pancras to Sheffield but yet is a consist of a Class 86 and MKII's.

On Wikipedia it says that the station scenes were filmed at the derelict Manchester Mayfield station and that yes, the power station was Thorpe Marsh for what it’s worth.
The scenes from inside the train as it’s travelling may have possibly been filmed on a preserved line somewhere though? If so would it have been at the East Lancs maybe, being near to Manchester and also having tunnels etc?

There's some urban exploration pictures kicking around somewhere of Manchester Mayfield still decked out with the fake signage from the programme
