It might be useful to have two Cally sleeper threads....

One for general talk about the sleeper and the second thread for the relevant loco numbers that are operating .

We're 226 pages and 6,763 posts into this thread and its always been a mix. First time this has been suggested IIRC. Think the majority are happy with the way it is...?

Who knows, but for those of us who don't care what loco is hauling what, it's a wee bit annoying to get a new post alert to the thread only to find it's more loco stuff, which would be more appropriate in a thread in the traction section of the forum rather than railway discussion.

A 20% discount is available on Seated and Standard Class Room tickets on all Caledonian Sleeper routes, for travel between 16 April 2018 and 26 April 2018. Use the code SLEEPER20 when booking your accommodation on Sleeper.scot.

Bookings must be made by 9 April 2018. Family tickets are not included in the offer.

In past years, when commuting weekly between 'homes' in England and Scotland after job moves and also a lot of work-related travel I used the Sleepers a lot but can't say that I ever looked forward to a trip. Yes, it's occasionally great waking up to Blair Atholl or wherever but after less than four hours of fitful sleep in a stifling or freezing compartment, feeling that one was being shunted around like the Troublesome Trucks or arriving hours late after some nocturnal failure in the middle of nowhere ones expectations only get lower and lower.

On browsing the Cally Sleeper wbsite, I noticed that you can pre-order breakfast. Does this now mean that you will not be able to order it when you get on at either London Euston or Fort William as I won't really know what I will want for breakfast until the night before.

You can try ... but based on my experience last night, despite telling two people what I wanted to drink (one at the platform end and one the carriage host, to whom I handed the ‘hook your order on the door’ card), I still received coffee instead of tea ...

Can I remind members that if something concerns you, you should use the report function.

If you have a view of whether this thread should exist as it does, or in some other form, let us know via this method and we will consider the position.

This Saturday morning is the Carlisle split for 1S26/1B26. Edinburgh portion will be leading from London and depart first via the WCML to Edinburgh followed by the Glasgow portion which will be diesel hauled, probably by a 47 via the GSWR

Booked into CAR at 05:12

1B26 dep CAR approx 05:31

1S26 dep CAR approx 05:47

Given both of the possible 47s (749 and 727) are currently in Barrow Hill on "X" it's going to be interesting to see if they make it back in time or if some alternative diesel traction is used.

Well I don't know then but a single 73 will struggle on the gradients on that route. Could be a 67 though.

I'm not sure what the point of the online preorder is because you do it all over again on boarding via the door hanger at the originating terminal, or the host if you join at an intermediate station: you choose breakfast, cold drink, hot drink. Don't worry about it.

The new door hangers are leading to one or two mistakes with orders I believe but no more than those caused by attendants writing down requests incorrectly on boarding.

For anyone on the Down Lowlander to Edinburgh tonight there might be something interesting on the front when it arrives as 1B26 at Edinburgh in the morning...

That a Class 90 ?
Yes. Plan is the 90 will work from Queen St via E&G, attach the EDB portion in Waverley and then carry on to Euston via ECML and reverse at Wembley.

ECS locos for Queen St likely to be 73/9 Sun night and 47 Mon morning.
