Should the Wimbledon to Edgware Rd (more known as the Wimbleware service) service be split off permanently from the rest of the District line and simplify the District line to just Upminster to Richmond and Ealing only?

If they did this could platforms and junctions at Earls Court be rebuilt so there won't be any conflicting moves in that area?

Perhaps you could go further and have the Wimbleware service extend via the Northern Circle to Aldgate and keep the Met line at Baker Street only, perhaps even transferring that line to London Overground operations.

Could this be done?

What about the other trains to Wimbledon that go via the city to Tower Hill and Upminster? You can't route them towards Edgware Road as there aren't the paths, but the Wimbledon branch needs the capacity they bring.

It the Met was terminated at Baker Street, you'd likely have to rebuild the entire station to cope with the passenger flows that would then be forced into an interchange.

Plus I’m sure the majority of customers, who are heading towards Victoria, Embankment and The City would have a thing or two to say about being made to change trains!

Would this then just become Richmond only if the Pic line takes over services to Ealing Broadway ? Surely if it’s already losing one branch it can keep the other.

There are only conflicting moves eastbound, westbound is already set up for it. The Wimbledon branch serves both Edgware Road and Tower Hill / Upminster. The capacity required by the Wimbledon branch requires services to both Edgware Road and Tower Hill. The eastbound conflicting moves aren't really an issue as trains can wait in Earls Court platforms for their correct sequence across the junction. Also in case of a failed train there is now (there never used to be) a crossover to platform 1 west of Earls Court from the Wimbledon branch. So I'm not understanding the benefit of making Wimbledon - Edgware Road a separate line. For most of the day it scheduled as a separate service, but the flexibility offered at times of disruption (planned or unplanned) would strongly advise against its separation into another line. Plus as mentioned above it forces people to change trains.
