They are about to be fed through the system again - think mostly mechanical work including doors etc- I am not sure what the work involves internally as they were refreshed recently

New carpets wthroughout including vestibules resprayed yellow stanchions gra brails and fittings new seat covers and replaced pannelling ... This work was completed about two years ago

The 377/5s have just had this work dome but to a lesser extent

But weren't the 375's already recently refreshed and yet they're being done again the 377's really do need a refresh their seats are terrible the SWT desiro fleet is much better ;)

Well the panelling has been improved at least it doesn't look drab now -blue rather than grey - and the design allows for an easier clean. The as built grey textured panelling looked grotty quite quickly. However I've said before the desiros age better because they have less parts obviously joined together to give that clean white wall effect without the grill heater sections the electrostars have

I was on a 377 recently and thought it still looked pretty smart. The carpets are dark so at least hide stains well

The sides of the seats in the centre coaches are prone to battering but not surprising given how narrow the corridors are

A standardisation of interiors would be good with a first class partition door on all. Units

porterbrook are pushing their 377s through C1 early then - it used to be 20 years when the midlife overhauls were due...this is assuming the 377s are on the standard 40 year life expectancy for a regional/suburban unit. once code1 commences on the fleets they should be stripped to shell and rebuilt to as new condition...but what do I know...

Things are due at different times all 377/1-4 have had external work done instead of full repaints, and interior refresh. 5s are getting that now.

Alot of the 377s now do need repaints though as they are looking faded...but as we know cos of the franchise arrangement they will want to save cash rather than spemd it on repaints

ahh this all makes sense now thanks physics 34, all major overhaul work is now centred around the code 6, the heaviest overall vehicle overhaul being code 3, which is the intermediate heavy overhaul anyway.

I guess the days of life extention overhauls on mainline are over - the HST's & the 1976 emu stock are the only exception to this rule..

Just a quick question , I know they are only 3-4 years old , but will the 377/6s and 377/7s be done at the same time ?

I travelled on a 377/5 today that has had new seat covers including the priority seat triangle stamped on said seats... only on the headrest part*

Other units have used the old first class pattern for priority seats

Sorry , I cant understand the pdf thing , how do you know which is which , as they all seem to have codes ?

yep it is all a bit of a mish mash. The key is at the bottom.

the numbers in the boxes are the amount of coaches rather than the amount of units....

377/1-4s are due their next C6 and PNT between 2019 and 2021
377/5s are getting their first C6 and PNT done now
377/6s and 7/s are due there first C6 and PNT in 2021

C6 = 7 Year overhaul of body, eg doors, heaters, seats & interiors as reqd - doesn't incl refurb. May include re-livery

PNT = Re-livery

Think Dry Lease means all work will get done in house????????????? Please correct me if wrong.

377/1-4s didnt get a repaint on their last C6 they just got patch up and corrosion work. Thats also what the 377/5s are getting now too. I guess the original paint job from new was deemed still in good condition and they wanted to save money. Personally i wouldve liked them to have got the "GTR/DfT" livery as the 365s and 700s have got.

Dry lease means it is the operators responsibility to carry out all maintenance. Of course, the operator can contract that out (to the likes of Knorr-Bremse or Wabtec) if it wishes, or does not have the capability to do it in-house.

There would be no point in this with enforcement having been abandoned long ago!

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but 'Class 377 Midlife Refresh' is not open for further replies and I couldn't find another appropriate one.

I was on 377 108 today and it seemed as if it had just been completely refurbished (inside and out). The new GTR Southern logo was on the sides and the paintwork seemed new; the bogies looked as if they had been really cleaned and the front of the unit was the most yellow I've ever seen! As for the interior, the seats certainly looked new. For those who are familiar with these units, 377 101-119 tend to have much more comfier seats compared to that off 377/4s, but on this unit this morning, the seat I was on felt like it had far less padding and, subsequently, resembled that of a bog-standard 377/4 seat. It's unfortunate if they are removing the padding from the few units with the really nice seats.

I expect we'll see more and more 377s over the next 6 months undergoing refurbishments (377/1s probably being first as they're older than the rest of the fleet).

The 377/3s have been completed.
377101 to 119 seats actually have a spring in the seat bases that makes them slightly more comfy. Maybe they have taken them out :( Everything is being done in house. Remember they all had a refresh about 6 or 7 years ago. Once again it seems to be a "mini refurb".

Im surprised the Southern livery isnt done away with as the name has such a bad rep. Also the seat covers are the same rough material. Something that i dont understand!

Ah, I never see 377/3s these days!

Are there springs on every seats on 377 101-119? I was sitting over the bogie, but I notice that the seats can be more 'sprung' in the middle of the coach. It would be a shame if they were bringing all seats in-line with the rock-hard type.

I really liked the Connex-style interior on the early /1s, but the Govia refurbishment wasn't too bad and continues to have a fresh look about it (possibly more so than the newer /4s!). This mini-refurb has maintained the fresh feel, IMO.

It seems GTR think making such a subtle change to their logo will make people forget!

A lot of the 377/3s are down on the East Grinstead line running as 12 car formations. I was on them twice on Friday & didn't notice the difference whatsoever I'm afraid. One had already been targeted by the marker pen graffiti fiends.

What does this subtle new logo look like?

I was on 377102 yesterday. It had definitely been thoroughly cleaned and repainted; especially noticeable on the front where the paint did not include the small horizontal bit below the window. It was very pleasant to travel on.

On a /1 not sure on number but carpets and seat covers replaces everything resprayed lovely inside !

The original interior is lovely on the first /1 batch . Such a shame all couldn't be like this but at least most series trailing cars have decent seating

I imagine they are just freshening them up to get another 4 or 5 years out of the existing interiors. I can imagine the next operator will either want to do a rebrand on them or upgrade the interiors as has been the case on most new operators of recent times. For instance plug sockets wouldn’t go a miss on the 377s.
