OK as its not been asked I will ask it.

What would the situation be if you had a reservation for the bike on both trains

The second train is not reservable, but if the relevant reservation(s) were held, then appropriate provisions would need to be made.

I'd think there are taxis that could accommodate a bike. Maybe a larger type of taxi that could carry a wheelchair. But I agree, the railway staff might say that my bike isn't included in the contract to travel.

There certainly are (at least in London, dunno about Birmingham) - I know because I've been on one courtesy of Virgin Trains. I was on one of the last trains of the day to arrive in Euston, with my bike. Train was heavily delayed, making most onward connections impossible. Virgin directed all passengers travelling onward to a fleet of taxis they'd arranged, and I got on one with my bike with no trouble at all (beyond a joking, am I sure I don't want to cycle it, remark).

A train operator is not contractually bound to provide alternative transport to convey a bike.

They may not be obligated but the larger cabs these days probably would be willing to take a bike in order to get the business on account.
