Hi all,
I was hoping that someone would know how this works.
I have understood from this forum that once one have started to work as a train driver the 40 minute travel time from home to depot doesn't really apply anymore (at least for some TOC's, possibly for MTR Crossrail it does), providing one arrives on time for their shift.
Here is my situation. At the moment I do live within 40 minutes travel time but I might need to move by 1st December 2017 and that would take me above 40 mins. In the meantime I'm waiting to be invited to DMI soon too. Hypothetically speaking if I'm lucky and successful at DMI then training would start in April/May 2018.
So here is my question - at which moment would I need to provide the proof of my home address - after a job offer? Or before training starts?
I thank you in advance for your time in responding to my query.

When you sign the contract which is generally couple of months before training so you should be fine.

Thank you for your quick response Donpoku.
But I need to clarify something - if I would move on 01/12/17 and sign the contract in February/March 2018 then I guess I won't be fine as I'll be above 40 minute travel time. Or am I missing something?

Notify HR of your impending new address and let them make the decision.

Unfortunately I failed my final interview in the area of concentration - I used an example of driving a car on the motorway. I can reapply in 6 months. Does anyone know if this 6 month rule applies to all TOCs or just MTR Crossrail? Also any hints on a better example of when you have maintained concentration for a long period of time?

Strange, I used a similar example for my DMI and I got through. Different TOC, though.

I also failed my DMI for using the same example for concentration. But it was with Arriva Rail London.
I was wondering if someone who was successful at the DMI with MTR Crossrail could share what kind of examples they provided for concentration area?
Surely we won't use them as it has to be a real example from our own experience, but maybe it will point us in the right direction and help to think "outside the box".
Thank you all in advance!

Sadly I failed my dmi with gtr but t was not for concentration. Do any of you have to concentrate at work for example I use cctv or when you were learning something, even perhaps the psychometrics on one application for trying to fix or find fault's or similar within a timeframe I put that I passed the driver fault finding test while being timed, maybe you had to learn something for your job and needed to concentrate to learn.

Hi, could any MTR drivers please confirm the roster arrangements - i.e. is it correct that you do 8 weeks on and 2 off? Thanks

I can confirm that is correct. Plus an additional 10 days to choose, 1 of which is used for Christmas Day. This is given back if that falls on a rest day.

I'm due to start in September. I've just had my medical and waiting to be contacted about references. Any one know how long they usually take from medical to get in touch about references?

Also interested in hearing how people on the course are getting on!

Hi
They contacted me just over 3 months before my start for the medical. Hopefully you should get an email about it soon!

Hi all, so last week i received my contract and that same day i received my date for my medical appointment which is August 6th, just wondering what to wear for the medical? Might sound a stupid question but I've done numerous medicals and they've all varied with what you do so just looking for the best option. Thanks in advance

Had mine a couple of months ago, and literally wore a t shirt & shorts. Very informal, quite like a conveyor belt, with numerous people coming in for medical from different companies.

Start my training on the 6th, so no doubt our paths will cross soon!

Can anybody on this thread confirm whether or not relocation is allowed for the newly posted trainee jobs?

Hello can anyone on this thread please clarify if the MTR Crossrail trainee train driver position means you become a train driver earning £59k after completion of training, or does it mean that you are guaranteed mainline progression and will ultimately be on that wage, but the date in which that will happen is undetermined right now and you will work in a depot performing shunting duties untill then.

Thank you
