I have just passed my DMI and MMI for Southern (GTR 1006). I have been told they are hoping for me to be allocated a course in the second half of this year. I have been put forward for the Metro area.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else had been successful in GTR 1006 recently and if there was a more specific start date for us?

Hi, I was notified I passed in November last year but just had a couple of emails to say they will be in touch later in the year around August time as no available courses at the moment, so just waiting to hear which is quite frustrating!

Hello well done. I have also passed (GTR 1006) and spoke to recruitment yesterday afternoon.
I was told the courses are to be starting in September and October 2018. With medicals just before.

Just checked my online account on GTR. My application status has just changed from 'Interview' to 'Offer'

I'm about to go for the line manager interview. Are they offering you to start work now on depot work, and be put on the next available training course when it comes up? Or are you not employed by them until the next available training course starts?

Joining Southern from the London Fire Brigade. So waiting for a call to give me a solid start date.

What station are you mate? I left the brigade last October started with Thameslink in November, half way through training now. You won't regret it!

Sad state of affairs when people are leaving the fire brigade , police etc to find something better.
There's a lot too.

It really is. Got a copper on my course and was speaking to a guy on a GN course and he said 6 of the 8 in the group were ex Hertfordshire fire fighters.
The services are going to find themselves seriously short if they don't address it

I agree, I remember 10-15 years ago the LFB would only recruit every 5 -10 years , now they have to open recruitment every year or 2. It was a dream job of mine, passed the tests etc but ended up choosing the LAS in the end. Wasn't the best move either but it's the same there, people leaving in droves.
Now I'm a driver and the amount of ex emergency services we've got is incredible, not people who are near retirement, mid 20s,30s who've had enough.
Too many cuts and it's the staff that are suffering.

Can you tell me what questions you were asked in the dmi?

Anyone else been told via email about the courses being postponed?

I've been told no courses until early next year.. I've passed everything and had my medical but looks like I have to wait longer than anticipated for a start date.

I’ve passed everything with great northern. Waiting to have a medical and a start date for a course which after everything being pushed back by 10 weeks because of the timetable changes was supposed to be October time but that looks very unlikely also. Just have to play the waiting game I suppose.

The reason you cant get on a course is because the training college is shut while they conduct drivers through the core .

I'm in the same position as you. Received the email stating that expect to hear from them in Jan 19
