It’s suggesting for a Berlin Schönefeld to Halle trip that I go via Frankfurt! Do I need to change a setting?

Yes, take a look at the options at the previous screen. Select the tab Options.
You have probably selected Frankfurt as a Via station.

I always wonder why the app does not reset the via station settings after closing it. When searching connections on desktop it doesn't save it either (why would it)
