DRS traction. They usually make an effort to have at least one of each class DRS operate. At recent events there have also been one or two visitors but it has been just one or two.

My 4 year old would have loved this but sadly it's his preschool end of year party on the same day and he loves bouncy castles just a little bit more! Is this something they put on every year?

In 2016, they had examples of 20s, 37s (/0s, /4s, /6s and a /7), a 57/0 and some 57/3s, 66s and a 68. 'Foreign' guests included a deltic (D9009) and a green class 40 (D213), 47501 and Scotrail liveried 47712.

I’m thinking of taking my nephew to this. He loves anything to do with buses, trucks and trains. Does anyone know if you can gain access to the cabs for a look around? I’ve had a look at the 2016 show on YouTube and it seems you’re just left to your own devices. Can anyone advise please as it’s a long way to go for my nephew for a 5 minute look around.

Thanks.

Most locos will be 'locked up'. They usually have one loco set up for a procession of people to visit the cab. The Crewe site isn't very big, only took me about half an hour to get a phot of everything at the last one.

Any other opinions on how long long to plan the visit for? "Half an hour" has left me shocked!

Half an hour to an hour I'd say from when I was there. However you can also check out the heritage centre a short bus ride away (which I enjoyed more than the depot!)-last time they had discounted admission for those who'd gone to the open day.

Last year they had a 68 of each livery you could get them in (DRS 68 style, 68 plain blue, chiltern and scotrail) and made quite a good photo as they were lined up. I wonder if this year they'll have a TPE liveried one on show?

I can't remember any guest locos that were there last year...

According to twitter (@OfficialGMOORE) and a tweet from @DRSGOVUK the following will attend:

At least one of the following:
-Class 20
-Class 37/0
-Class 37/4
-Class 37/6
-Class 57/0
-Class 57/3
-Class 66
-Class 68
-Class 88

There will be 2 locomotive being named also.

Have fun, and see you there.

I went up on the UK Rail Tours DRS Crewe Open Day special yesterday and had a great time. A very well thought out day, with a great line up of locos and lots of thought given to their display, presenting some great photo opportunities. To any of the DRS staff involved reading this, thank you and well done!! To any DB and Freightliner staff, the bar has been set!...

Darn it they had a 68 in TPE livery there. Asked a mate and he said two 68s neither in TPE. He said that wrong judging by the photos.

Does anyone know, when it's at Carlisle next year, is it likely that they'll have more 88s there than at Crewe? I believe they are principally based at Carlisle Kingmoor so logic says there should be more than just one there?
