Closed Thameslink station

Whilst on a 700 from Herne Hill to St Pancras on Friday, I noticed a disused station either in between Blackfriars and City Thameslink or City Thameslink and St Pancras. I've done some research but couldn't find much info.

I'm not from London so don't know it.

Can anyone shed any light?

Must have been Kings Cross Thameslink that you saw. Its located between City Thameslink and St Pancras. It closed when the new station at St Pancras opened.

Most likely Kings Cross Thameslink, but you can also see the remains of Snow Hill/Holborn Viaduct Low Level between Farringdon and City Thameslink.

Remains of Snow Hill are between City and Farringdon and the much easier to see Kings Cross Thameslink between Farringdon and St Pancras. You've also got Smithfield sidings and the closed since the 70s spurs onto the GN side at Kings Cross hidden away in the core if you look closely. The Canal Tunnels to Finsbury Park are effectively just a new link to an old route that existed for years but was closed when BR took over the Northern City Line. You can have a look at disused stations and tracks in London on this map http://carto.metro.free.fr/cartes/metro-tram-london/ although I'd recommend getting a copy of Joe Brown's London Railway Atlas for a more in depth and comprehensive survey.

Also used to be a spur to Moorgate platforms 5-6 where the south end of the Farrindgon platforms are now. This is where the original Bedpan services used to run. Firstly diesel DMUs & Class 31s followed by Class 317s when it was wired up.

Looks a sorry sight with the decade old posters proclaiming the arrival of the new pancras

The original Thameslink colour scheme remains

It's an ugly station with a crampt unappealing feel about it so clear to see why it was closed . The masonry starting to wear away in places

You can peep into the platforms through some doors if you walk to kings cross at pancras through the Pentonville Road entrance which has barely been touched in all this time . There is an old sign board for trains to Bedford behind a padlocked gate a bit creepy really

Funnily enough went through it today on way to St Pancras for Eurostar, FCC posters peeling off the walls, lights still on full blaze but can see why it was closed. Tiny staircases and narrow platforms. Each column has the blue/pink livery of the previous operator!

Just discovered that the widened lines extended a few hundred metres further West under St Pancras for a proposed four track to Paddington which never happened.

Can anyone explain the use of the Chalton Street Junction which connected the east running Met trains to the east running widened lines? Seems to have been dug in 1926 but was lost when the new Met platforms were built for KX.

Something to do with Met trains terminating at Moorgate but I can't get my head around it??

My understanding is the 4 track section was dug but left abandoned until 1926 when an eastbound-only connection was routed through the tunnel from Chalton Street to the now Thameslink side. Eastbound trains could also stay on the LU side. Westbound trains from Moorgate bays towards Baker Street would have had to cross over at Farringdon. When KX Met station was moved in 1941 this old Eastbound loop became the permanent Eastbound platform, still used today, the connection to the widened lines was lost and the former Eastbound line became a short-lived bay platform accessed from the west. The remnants of this old bay road can still be seen from westbound trains.
