In fairness to Meldrew, he suffered a catalogue of mishaps which would have sent Job over the edge. I don't remember an episode involving a tower being 50 cm out

I see that a learned theologian walks in our midst, with his mention of Job, who in rabbinical understanding was a prophet of the Gentiles and a good and prosperous family man who was beset by Satan (who was given carte blanche by "the currently accepted being commonly referred to as God") in all manner of disasters of a personal nature.

'Fence 50 cm Closer to Pain in the Backside's House' would have beeen a more accurate, but less eye-catching headline.

The Liverpool Echo: everything that's wrong with the modern media, in one convenient, tabloid-sized package.

It's not 50cm closer to his fence - it's 50cm either left or right as he looks at it. So basically, it should, in his opinion, be 50cm over his neighbour's garden rather than totally over his own. But Network Rail and Merseytravel are saying it's in the right place, but the OS maps they overlayed were slightly inaccurate.

Either way, makes very little difference.

If they knocked the towers down and rebuilt them would it not potentially mean another 6 months to a years worth of building work while they sort it all out? In addition the gent has lived at his current address for 42 years and complains about his house price dropping? As has been stated he will get an excellent price in comparison to what he originally paid... 42 years ago.

We all must have read from time to time about local authorities demanding demolition of properties that were constructed exterior to the agreed planning application.

Is Maghull North inside that section coloured yellow?

It appears to be the border station (which Maghull previously was).

https://www.merseyrail.org/timetable-changes/fare-changes.aspx (and page 54 of the Merseyrail 'New Northern Line Timetable' handout) tells us

If you travel between Ormskirk and Maghull stations, the cost of your ticket may increase because of boundary changes.

When Maghull North station opens, the boundary point for zone C3 and zone F will move from Maghull to Maghull North.

This means if you travel from Ormskirk, Aughton Park or Town Green to Maghull using a Day Saver ticket, from 18 June you will have to purchase an All Zones Day Saver. If you travel using a Railpass, you will be required to buy a 2 Zones Railpass. Any Railpass tickets bought before 18 June 2018, will be valid for travel between Ormskirk and Maghull until they expire.

Another thing to look out for is the addition of Maghull North to the "spider diagrams" at stations.

I look forward to the response in Ormskirk to the news that their journeys to Maghull on the train will take longer and cost more. This crossing of the invisible border twixt Liverpool and West Lancashire should be addressed. Already the boundary caused significant "rail heading" from West Lancashire to Maghull which will now be encouraged to shift north to Maghull North. Skelmersdale should be fun in due course as it falls into the Lancashire Gap twixt Rainford (Merseyside) and Orrell (TfGM).

View attachment 48459 I was the first passenger off too :).

See if you can spot yourself on this video: https://twitter.com/TheGNRP/status/1008579180089544706 :)

Why that long? Other than overnight there aren't any gaps in service on the Ormskirk line of more than 30 minutes, are there? Or is the service somewhat asymmetric as it starts up?

First southbound train is the 0549 from Ormskirk which calls at Maghull North at 0558.
First northbound train is the 0617 from Liverpool Central which calls at Maghull North at 0640.

There Would be a lamppost in the way but I am there. Brown coat and beard. The first train going back to Ormskirk was seven minutes late. Let's see if that makes the news There were two trains southbound before one going north. I asked a Merseytravel man on tne platform and he said something about lack of northbound demand at that time.

Thanks for uploading. I asked the woman from network rail who filmed one to email it to me.

I did visit Maghull North today, it did look lovely but it did look like there still some work going on, the lifts weren't in use, think they still to finish the work off to them, before 1pm I asked a lovely lady in the booking office how many people used the station and she replied 174 (that number will be different now and rising)

Here a video from Maghull North station today which i've filmed.

There's a note on Merseyrail's website that the lifts will be operational from Friday 22nd. Apparently that is also the date for the official opening ceremony with mayor Steve Rotheram and other dignitaries in attendance.

Automated announcement on the station this morning announcing the train length, destination calling points etc. First time I've heard Anne on Merseyrail (And she can't pronounce Maghull properly)

is Anne her actual name? As far as announcements on the trains themselves are concerned I was under the impression it was Julie Berry.
