Yes I have, and yes - every single time I boarded at KGX I'd invariably pick one of the two center coaches, then notice the smell, then move to an end coach. Every time I boarded anywhere else, the train was already too full to move (but I usually had more luck remembering which coach to pick). It's my main memory of the unit. (The smell did get less bad the further you went from the toilet, but it was still noticeable in the entire carriage - and it seemed the smaller toilet was the worse one for smell.)

I see people are rather touchy about their trains here...

(Just to be clear I'm talking about the toilet chemical smell, not the excrement smell. It's somewhat similar to urinal smell.)
Not touchy at all, you're just talking rubbish. Or you have a hypersensitive sense of smell

They are rather smelly (in the two central cars), and quite loud inside. I've never been in a 380, but I'd still prefer clinical to the aforementioned adjectives.
They can be a bit loud inside when flat out and all the hoppers are open on a very hot day. Otherwise they are not noisy at all.

I'm simply reporting my experiences with the 365, and I was far from being the only one to remark on the strength of the smell, on repeated occasions. Not sure why people think I'd be making things up about one very specific train that I couldn't care less about (I don't travel in Scotland at all nowadays, what trains run on the E&G doesn't affect me one iota).

It's certainly true that the 365's have a bit of a following in enthusiast circles, which probably explains the emotion here.

One comment to make, I have a strong suspicion that most of the people posting here are more talking from the perspective of “regular user” rather than “enthusiast”. I’m not particularly aware of the 365 having that much of an enthusiast following at all - it’s a pretty plain and straightforward train that happens to do its job exceptionally well.

There certainly weren’t, to my knowledge, hoards of photographers at places like Cambridge and Kings Lynn when they finished at those places. There have, however, been comments heard from passengers along the lines of “preferred the old trains”.

The accessible toilets do sometimes have a bit of a chemical-y pong if you sit right by them.

Not seen it mentioned on here but another 365 is due to be dragged to Scotland this evening on two separate paths, Ilford to Crewe, then Crewe to Eastfield. Both paths operating as 5Q06

365521 and 529 made the journey today behind a ROG 37. They left Crewe a couple of minutes ago.20180615_051738.jpg 20180615_051747.jpg

the loos can whiff a little, but from my experience just avoiding the bit of the carriage between the vestibule and the loos is enough.

I’m amazed they are brining these old trains into service. Not impressed with them at all.
Would you rather walk? There is nothing wrong with 365s. I wish we could have them in the North but we don't have enough electrification thanks to Grayling and co.

The absolute state of the person replying first, though (follow the subsequent thread).

I do hope that being a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament is the powers-that-be's way of filtering out those who shouldn't actually become M(S)Ps in future.
That young Padawan has much to learn in the ways of the railway force.
Then again, if his political ambitions are successful, he'll most likely end up hoist on his own petard with vague promises about referendum after referendum on independence form the rest of the (dis)United Kingdom - but talks about such referendums are neither here nor there with regard to Class 365s and ScotRail.

In more relevant news the 2 sets that arrived yesterday have a a team working on them all day today and are now Scotrail-fied with dark blue doors, logos and work being done on the steps at Easfield. I think the move of these units to Scotrail shows that "when there's a will there's a way" still applies to the railway, and can be done with a bit of determination. (or desperation)

That’s when you’re have no choice but to shell out to NR central to get your trains cleared

Now we have eight units 365.509/13/17/21/23/25/29/37 in Scotland. If someone could report on the next (last) two to appear please, that would be great! Also which units are cleared for passenger service (suitably modified).

These units will begin to enter service from this Saturday, 23rd June.

Interesting. As it happens I’m in Glasgow on Saturday. Any idea what services they’ll be operating. I could be tempted to go for a ride!

Enjoyed 365s on the Cambridge Flyers in the past, when I saw this news a month or so ago I was pleased to see the great units getting a new lease of life for now, but also tempted to go on them when I'm in Scotland from the 20-23rd August (although as I'm staying in Aberdeen it would be a long day trip back to and the along the Central Belt) :) :)

I would just like to add a disclaimer! The PLAN is to start them this Saturday with rosters/units and diagrams etc in place. The railway being the railway however everything is subject to delay and/or cancellation.

The units and diagrams might be there but they need a crew to work the diagrams lol.
I believe we will see them Saturday

Last 2 looks like they are coming up overnight. Left Peterborough an hour ago.
