1D29 1903 London Kings Cross to Leeds broke down near P'boro just before 19:50 still awaiting Thunderbird due to arrive around 21:30 from Doncaster so it's possible 1D34 2200 London Kings Cross to Leeds won't actually be the last service to arrive to its destination

The 9pm from kings cross to Newcastle could be the last arrival under VTEC the 10pm is scheduled to arrive around 30 to 40 minutes earlier

VTEC confirmed was 2200 to Leeds was the last ever VTEC to depart the capital.

Correct and it was also due to be the last arrival to its destination but in the end it was 1N34 2100 London Kings Cross to Newcastle which finally arrived into Newcastle at 01:48 - 105L

RTT still hasn't updated as yet they still have todays services down as Virgin Trains East Coast

I’m currently sitting onboard 1S08 0849 London King’s Cross to Edinburgh (the first LNER train out of London), which appears to have failed just north of Hitchin...

Seems you got going again, according to the LNER website it is still under investigation.

However, they also tell you to follow @Virgin_TrainsEC for the latest Travel updates so still some information gremlins to be sorted.

I would expect the stickers to be applied tonight with an LNER launch tomorrow at Kings Cross.

That photo has been on the LNER website for a few days, it's photoshopped.
Looks real to me in above photo that said I’ve not seen any on Twitter yet all virgin brand still. They probably won’t be repainted if they are getting new trains soon anyway.

I'll admit it's a very convincing photoshop, but as no trains have been rebranded yet it can only be a photoshop.

Must be a slow news day at Sky

First state-run East Coast line train arrives on time
The first service operated by the new state-run franchise that runs trains on the East Coast Main Line has arrived on time.

The 7.54 London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service from Newcastle to London Kings Cross arrived at 10.52 as expected.

The government took back control of the East Coast rail franchise after its private operators Virgin Trains East Coast lost money.

On a wider note re the introduction of the class 800s. I had a run on two 800s yesterday and its true what they say about the seats. They are ultra firm, hard in fact. Are the ECML having the same seats fitted to their 800s? Its still a great train but the seats themselves aren't as superior as those in the mk3s and mk4s at the moment imo.

Most likely, yes, I've seen computer generated images of Virgin's new 800s, the seating look the same as GWR's however with red fabrics. It may be LNER now, it would be too costly to change everything in a temporarily run franchise that I expect things to look & feel unchanged also continuing the Virgin theme though without the Virgin brand as LNER is making an extensive use of the red colouring.

After the media outrage about seating in new trains, I hope these will get more cushioning as LNER intercity routes are lot longer than GWR's then it would be very uncomfortable sitting in those seats for 4 hours or more.

If this is ignored then when FirstGroup begin their rival East Coast Trains in 2021, as there will be no first class service then they could try to attract customers away from LNER with the promise of more comfortable seating and no ironing board seats used as Greater Anglia also plan to do so.

I presume its down to no springs in the seats, just an ultra firm high density type of foam? That's just a guess?

There's plenty of depth to the seat so its not the board underneath that can be felt. Its that the padding is so firm. Unless this is deliberate to make sure the seats last longer with heavy use?

Perhaps this thread should be renamed with a more suitable title tomorrow or alternatively locked with a new one opened as necessary to discuss LNER operations and performance?

As the re-nationalisation has now occurred the Forum Staff feel that this thread has now run its course and is therefore locked. Any subjects relating to LNER should now be discussed either in new threads in appropriate Forums or in existing relevant threads (for example we do have a thread regarding the livery which can be found here).

Thanks,
