India A 'only' managed 458-4 in their 50 over game against Leicestershire today, but they were 400-1 at one stage, which must be some sort of record too!

They've just been talking about this on TMS

Northern Echo said:
CRICKET commentator Jonathan Agnew managed to get to his seat at the Emirates Riverside in time today thanks to a local garage.

The BBC pundit suffered a flat tyre on his way to the home of Durham CCC in Chester-le-Street where England were playing Australia in a one day international.

He had been worried he might not make the start, but he need not have worried - staff at Catterick Service Station ensured he was not left on a sticky wicket.

Agnew wrote on Twitter: "Hurrah for these lovely people who sorted out my puncture on the A1 in minutes. Thanks all. Should still make 2pm first ball on ?@bbctms? #ENGvAUS"

He posted a photo of the service station and later posted a photo of the screw responsible for his predicament.

Speaking afterwards owner Mark Chisholm told The Northern Echo: "He was on his way up to the Emirates and got a puncture in his Land Rover Discovery.

"He stumbled across us coming off the A1. He was in a bit of a rush so we jumped straight on it. He had a long screw in one of his rear tyres so we whipped his wheel off, got it repaired and got him on his way as quick as we could."

Asked if he often got celebrities popping in, Mark said: "In fairness, most of the lads didn't recognise him, but he has TMS, Test Match Special, on his number plate.

"We have had Jackie Charlton in and Ian Botham over the years, but no we don't get so many.

"He was a lovely, lovely, lovely, pleasant man."

4th ODI match

Australia 310-8 (50 overs)
Finch 100
Head 63
Marsh 101
All the top three batsmen gave Australia an excellent start, scoring no less than 264 of their side's runs, but the middle order did not press home any advantage

Willey ..... 7 - 0 - 43 - 4

England 314-4 (44.4 overs)
Roy 101
Bairstow 79
Good scores above by both the England openers and after 37 overs at the fall of the fourth wicket at 244-4, in came Buttler to score 54 from 29 balls.

England now 4-0 up in the series, winning this match with over five overs to spare.

I was beginning to think that Lancashire had "cornered the market" of recent County Championship batting collapses until I noted that in their first innings against Nottinghamshire, Gloucestershire quickly moved from 25-0 to 26-5, succumbing to 62 all out.

Sanderson 14 - 7 - 16 - 5.

In the Worcestershire v Lancashire match, where a number of wickets had fallen over the first two days of the match, day three saw Worcestershire eventually declare, setting Lancashire a not inconsiderable target of 601 to win, which seemed like "rubbing it in" noting the recent Lancashire inability to post a good innings total. It was therefore somewhat amazing to see Lancashire in their second innings put together a score of 269-4 at close of play on day three. Even Hameed managed to reach a small double-figure score of 20.

Fantastic century from Joss Buttler today, just letting the Aussies think they might win a consolation, then sealing a 5-0 series victory for England.

What a player !!

A superb series performance - i only hope we haven't peaked too soon with the world cup coming up next year.

Quite the rollercoaster of an afternoon in the sun yesterday. Feeling very buoyant, though slightly cheated of cricket when we disposed of the Aussies before the break with 15 overs to go. Great bowling from Mo Ali. Then it all started to go wrong, with one of the best England batting collapses I've seen in a long while followed by a lacklustre spell when the run target seemed well out of reach, only for Jos Buttler to dig in and save the day. Credit goes to Rashid and then Ball for hanging on in there and letting Jos get the runs we needed.

Does anyone know what the first-class team record is for runs scored off the bat?
Essex have scored 143 without loss before the first extra (1 leg bye).

I don't know the answer to that, but I do know there have been a few instances where teams have made 500 plus, even 600 plus, without the wicketkeeper conceding a bye.

With one-off cup ties, the latter stages of the World Cup will be a bit of a lottery. It seems the hapless powers that be can fill the year with meaninglessly repetitive international fixtures and then fail to come up with a format which will determine the best one-day team in a World Cup. In baseball, the World Series is the best of seven.

For those of you who remember the regular collapses of the England team in the 90s (and more recently to be fair), I don't think this one will ever be beaten......o_O:E

Cricket collapse: Peterborough Town take seven High Wycombe wickets in 11 balls - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/44613032

Hi all, bit of advice if you please.

I'm thinking of going to the Kent v Hampshire One Day Cup Final on Saturday, as I have links to both counties. However, I would be going on my own as no one I have asked has shown any interest. I have never been to cricket on my own, and as it will probably be all day, I'm not sure I would enjoy it anywhere near as much as with company. As much as I am up for the occasion, and I've no worries about being somewhere on my own in a crowd, I fear I will too easily get bored sitting there on my own all that time. It's not like the tube for example (which I love), where I can always be on the move or looking around. If I do decide to go, and if there are any tickets left (it will be a late decision), can anyone give any ideas or tips on how to get through the day on my own?

Many thanks

An amazing Kent game so far, for Grant Stewart. I thought it was his debut, but the internet tells me it's his 4th first class game
Kent 1st innings - career best 38.
Middx 1st innings - career best 6-22.
Kent 2nd innings - career best 103 off 79 balls. Including last wicket partnership of 100, of which his batting partner made 1.

Had never heard of him before yesterday!

Enjoy the day! You probably realise Kent and Hampshire have a great rivalry dating back into the nineteenth century, perhaps even earlier, with the traditional Bank Holiday 'derby' matches between the two of them which lasted until the two division county championship put paid to it. You'll find, I think that both sets of fans and the cricketly neutral are not so partisan that they don't recognise the achievements of players on both sides, so it doesn't really matter where you sit. It's been a while since I last went to Lord's, and a while before that for a cup final, but take food and drink with you, as queues can be long and prices high! I'm a Kent supporter, though it's probably twenty years since I last saw them, but I attended many cup finals in the 1970s and 1980s, as Kent were a pretty good one day team then. Some I went to with friends or family, but others alone, and I didn't find the latter daunting in practice. I'm not hugely extrovert, but you'll probably find others around that you can share some thoughts and banter with, regardless of their allegiance. Most people want a close-run game, and good individual performances, and my best memories from the games I witnessed was a fantastic innings by Worcestershire's Basil d' Oliveira, on one leg, against Kent. We all applauded it, because we knew we'd seen a great cricketer playing out of his skin, even though it consigned Kent to failure.

By the way, I very much doubt you'll have trouble getting tickets and, if you're allowed to do so, which I think you probably still are, you could always try two or three different positions in the crowd. getting different views of play and different comments from other spectators. That can ward off potential boredom!

Thanks for the advice. I am aware of the rivalry, though I couldn't choose one enough over the other to support.
My sense of adventure isn't pushing me to go. I prefer the longer format, and have lost interest in one day generally, so perhaps I'd only be going for the occasion and not the game, hence the novelty might wear off.
I'd rather see the two meet in the County Championship, though I admit that probably wouldn't be as exciting as a cup final.

Blimey! How many times can England give away 1st ball wickets tonight? They made such a promising start too. Posted 159-8 off their 20 overs. Good bowling by Kuldeep Yadav 5-24

I was feeling good sitting in the sun at 97-1. Not so positive now, let's see what the India innings brings.

Fantastic support for India in the ground today.

In the International T20 match between Zimbabwe and Australia, the Australian captain and opener, Aaron Finch, scored 172 from 76 balls with 10 x 6 and 16 x 4, before being given out "hit wicket".

He was actually out with two balls left, just three sort of Chris Gayle's 175, which is a record for all T20 cricket.

First One Day International.....England v. India

England batted first were all out for 268, with the middle-order batsmen Buttler and Stokes making 50s, but that target looked far too short to set India in their current batting ODI form much of a challenge.

Once again, Kuldeep Singh has returned an excellent ODI bowling return of 10 - 0 - 25 - 6.

India, in response, only needed 40.1 overs to post a winning score of 269-2
Rohit 137 not out
Kohli 75

Well that was a bit of an anti-climax. Poor play by India. Initially a slow over rate and then once their top order got out a plodding display of batting. Perhaps they forgot they could win the ODI series and that people had paid good money to see an in form India team play cricket.

That said a typical middle order performance by England, but they at least managed to post a decent score in the end.

Two notable performances from an England point of view were the 113 by Root and a bowling return of 10 - 1 - 46 - 4 by Plunkett.

That had elements of the first ever World Cup match between these two teams in 1975 at Lords, in which Sunil Gavaskar carried his bat for 55 not out I seem to remember! Nowadays, the authorities usually take an in-depth look at betting patterns, but that's difficult with betting in India being massive but illegal! I certainly don't think England have cause for complacency.
