Was travelling with a friend yesterday on the delayed 17.12 TPE train from Leeds towards Middlesborough. We got off at York station - platform 10 - and made our way out of the station to the bus stops.

Upon getting on the bus stop, my friend realises that her backpack is no longer on her back. As far as she knows, it was on her on the train.

York station lost property have no record of finding it - I popped down today to check - so if it was on the TPE service, where will it have ended up?

The train manager on the train said it was going no further than Northallerton due to the delay, though RTT suggests Thornaby.

There were 2 phones in there too, and at least one was ringing - albeit with no answer - until 21.15 when she called the network to put an IMEI block on both, therefore I am reasonably satisfied its not theft.

Phone them on 0345 600 1671. They will try to steer you towards www.missingx.com - a global luggage locating service with apparently not much knowledge of northern English railway destinations. But if you persist you get through to a person who will probably try to help. When I left a bag on a TPE train it took them several goes before they got a reply from from the train's destination (Scarborough), but then arrangements were quickly made for me to pick it up.

Yes, that's where I've been directed. Where is it likely the item will end up? Northallerton, Thornaby, Middlesborough or somewhere else?

I should also add, earlier today I got somebody more helpful on TPE customer service who told me that there was no phone number for Northallerton station and Middlesborough, apparently, had no record of it after she called whilst I waited.

if you get no where, you can go to a station and ask the staff to call the stations u think where it could end up. If they say they don't know the number tell to dial 100 on a railway phone.puts them through to an operator.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice. Despite being assured by someone at TPE customer service that, despite the train being terminated short at Thornaby, no lost property would end up there (they said it would end up at Middlesborough), after a last ditch call on Saturday morning, somebody got through to Thornaby who confirmed they did indeed have the bag. Collected on Monday and all is well :)
