Hi guys,

Just signed up here as I am in the process of completing the application form for the Glasgow Trainee Driver role. Quick question about the form. It asks about experience in a safety role. Are they asking if you have experience working in a role where safety is a priority or something completely different? I'm currently a gas engineer so as you can imagine Safety is critical in that game. Just need a bit of a heads up so I dont end up typing the complete opposite of what they are looking for.

Cheers and good luck to all that have applied.

I'm pretty sure they are asking whether you've done a role where the safety of others depends on your diligence and attention to detail - as well as following rules and regulations. I'd say a gas engineer would cover that criteria pretty comprehensively!

ive just had email inviting me to assessment centre in Glasgow for the Perth role. Anyone who's been through it free for a PM and a chat?

Sorry can't help with that,

Do you mind my asking, are you within the 45mins or not?

Not heard back myself, putting it down to the 45 mins or a typo as I think I have a strong application.

Possibly not tho :)

I’m too a gas engineer and I’ve applied to a couple of companies but I’ve not heard anything back.
How long did it take for you to get through the application process?
Which TOC do you work for?
Thanks

From applying to final interview was around 6 or 7 weeks. I then received the 'thanks but no thanks' letter and placed into a waiting list (which, if im being honest, didnt think actually existed). 9 months later i was contacted and offered a job.

I work for Scotrail.

Was just checking! I’ve applied for a couple with Scotrail.
I would have to relocate though as I live in the North West.
Where have you applied for?
Edinburgh only, I would relocate if I didn't have family all located in East Lothian.

Chaz15, wouldn't give up hope just yet. Previous experience has shown me that they seem process applications in bundles due to sheer volume.

I’m assuming no one has received any invitation for any online tests yet?

I notice looking back in this thread when First ran the franchise that online tests was the first step in the process after submitting applications, just checking I haven’t fallen at the first hurdle

I think it’s a different process this time

I believe it’s assessments at the assessment centre, followed by a DMI if successful, followed by a second day of assessments if successful

Amazing, thanks for that!! I’m currently trawling through this thread but I’m only at page 28 or so... Hopefully my OPC pass will be good enough for SR *fingers crossed*

Am I right in saying you have to be at least 20 years old to apply for the trainee driver position with ScotRail? I know for Driver Apprenticeships you can be 19 which is the one I applied for with Virgin a while back. Only asking cause sometimes it doesn't ask and other times it does, that and I dont want to taint my future applications if they reject me based off my age...

Yeah that's what i took it as. Just wanted to know I was on the right track. No pun intended. Just one other question. Within the last 5 years I have been a partner in my family business which we have now closed. Tried contacting recruitment to find out what i should include as there are no reference details as such since i part owned the company. No answer back via email. Does anyone have a contact number for them? Unable to find one online. Cheers.

How do you find driving compared with the gas game? I’m just trying to fine tune my applications and get to the next stage in the process

Its OK. Its a far more sedentary job. Always sitting on my backside lol! Its good though, more security especially for the kids. Im enjoying it if im being honest!

Joined this forum as I've been invited to a Glasgow assessment centre for a trainee driver in Aberdeen. The email I received only mentioned the GBT, TRP1+2 and TEA-Occ -- nothing about an interview. I'm assuming that's at a later stage if you're successful on the first round of tests. Genuinely kind of excited rather than nervy because I love brain games.

I applied for the Trainee driver role in Yoker and sent my application away on Sunday night. Not expecting to hear anything until maybe late next week. I would imagine they have an awful lot of apllications to sift through.

I submitted my application for Airdrie on the 4th July. Don't see this being a quick process, I think we're in this for the long run!

I submitted my application for dundee/Perth well before the closing date but haven't heard anything but some people I know who applied after me have heard one has been taken to the next stage and the other has not been taken any further.....any ideas as to why I ain't heard anything?

It basically takes as long as it takes which isn't much comfort to those who have applied and haven't heard anything yet.

I applied for a Conductors job last year well before the closing date and didn't hear anything for a month before receiving an email inviting me to the Assessment Centre.

If you've not heard anything yet it doesn't mean you won't.

Good luck to all who've applied.

Hi Nathan I got my application for the Perth/Dundee role in the day before closing, got email invite to assesment about a week later. Very excited even though its early days. Don't worry to much there will be a high volume of applications to process and its not long since closing date.
