Hi all, does anyone know if there is a contractual tie in period once qualified as a driver at Northern.
For example: you can't leave without paying back thousands in training fees if you leave the company before 2 years.

I haven't worked for Northern so have no idea about their contracts etc, but across the industry very few if any other companies will take on drivers as qualified who are still within their 2 year PQA status.

I left Northern after a few months with no contractual tie-in or payback, and moved to a new company within the two year PQA period, have known others do the same.

I've read stories on this board that if you leave during the tie-in period you should just ignore the requests for money and take advice from your union. They don't appear to be legally enforceable or most TOCs arent willing to do it anyway.

Reading stories on this board is all well and good but, I know many on the railway who have been in this scenario and not one ever had a TOC even mention it, including me so this isn’t a story ;)

Scare-mongering and good ol’ railway rumors.

I wasn’t implying that the stories were false. I called them “stories” because I can’t verify it having never been in the situation.

Sorry but that's totally wrong I know numerous drivers who have moved on in their PQA period. One left Northern for TPE after 6 months.

Yeah, I doubt the tocs would get away with the bond thing that bus operators get away with. Hopefully there is no even hint of a tie-in because the freedom to leave means more driving jobs for the rest of us
