No this is the steam gala. Diesel gala is in October. £20 is about the going rate for a day rover on most railways during galas.

£20 isn't unreasonable in my opinion, especially for a line the length of the Severn Valley. The KWVR (at under 5 miles in length) charged £17 for its gala the other week, and the West Somerset gala was £22 if my memory serves me right. I didn't feel I'd been ripped off at either.

If you want full value for a 1 day ticket then start at 1 min past Midnight on Saturday and travel all the way till 23:59 on Saturday. Can get 6 round trips in or so at 16 Miles each single leg. That's 192 miles for £20 or £10 for kids!

Depends whats on offer and whether its to your taste. If the SVR turns into yet another 50 fest I shall be staying away - yet I happily paid £30 for a day rover at NYMR last year for the pleasure of a rat to Battersby. The SVR is £12 or thereabouts for a normal running day so £20 isn't a huge increase for a gala - for £12 two round trips behind 1062 is very much recommended.

Well i'm sure you can guess one fifty that will be popular and making an appearence which should attract the red pens......anyway it should hopefully be a good do.

To be honest, it's less of a rip-off than the GCR. I sincerely doubt I'd be willing to shell out £20 though.

£12 87015? I could swear it was £13 for a day ticket thing on a normal day about 4 years ago. But yes, that much is reasonable for some enjoyable runs behind a Western. 64 miles isn't it for two round trips?

£14 for a day rover on a normal day at the SVR I believe, maybe 87015 got some form of discount, 65 miles is the diesel diagram, line is 16.25 miles if you go to the nearest quarter so x4 makes 65.

is a one day rover valid overnight or something (what happens when you lapse form Friday to Saturday if its on overnight?)

The WSR was £22 and was worth every penny. I would do the overnight if it does that, but won't get to the site until Friday night, and would prefer not to spend £20 for 3-4 hours, then anther £20 for the Saturday

EDIT:

Then again the 2 day rover is £30, but thinking about it I wold be there on the Friday with no more than 3 hours till midnight I reckon, but if the line up is good, £30 should be ok!

You would need a two day rover which costs £30 as the first post says.

Personally I'm not expecting any Class 50s at the Gala we're talking about in this thread - unless the SVR is planning on using some diesels at the steam gala, as happens the other way round! ;)

I was just responding to 87015 (hater of vacs) who was responding to 37401 who clearly had his wires crossed............! A diesel at steam galas is however not unknown, in recent years the 08's have worked shuttles from Kidderminster to the carriage shed at one of the March events (06 or 07) while 20188 (I think it was 188 anyway and not 227) made an appearence on the September (07) gala replacing a failure when the line was only open from Kiddy to Bewdley.

So what brewing contraptions are producing? I presume the regular froth-inducing device will be present?

there is no list on the website of what is expected yet, I'd imagine it is still in the process. I'd imagine some of them is home fleet of course

Any chance of the boilered HST power car also running on one of the diesel days, or is it not going to be ready this season? (I notice it has been dropped from the North Norfolk line-up.)

Hopefully a few people will know what I'm referring to!

Sampled the flying pig today on the 1210 Kiddy - Bridgenorth & 1350 rtn, possibly its first passenger run post overhaul as i did not think it was going to appear until the gala. 41241 has now arrived on site and 4744 was being unloaded around midday. 5643 was in steam along with 813 at Kiddy before I left and arrived at Bridgenorth with 5764 while I was there.

Did you see the ornament pig on the front with the wings?

Sadly I won't make it down for 43106 this weekend - am hopefully going out for 2 winners at Didcot on Saturday and the same at Peak Rail on Sunday. Would be nice if it is out on the Saturday of the diesel gala next month.

An absolutley hellfire event. I was down with some of the Shack lads (you may have seen us wearing the the 3x56 "Gridlocked" Tshirts on saturday) for all three days, with plenty of beer, haulage and laughs!

The night trains were fantastic.
