Yes. One would have thought that they would have known on Wednesday, when the path appeared in the system, whether there was a unit ready to move two days later.

I travelled on my first 385s today, Linlithgow to Glasgow and return. The ride was very smooth but the seats are horrendously uncomfortable, even worse than the 380 and 365 seats. I guess once I manage to get on one in the peaks it won’t matter as I’ll likely be standing, as there were even people standing today.

Just womdered if anyone has a technical reason the pantographs on these units face the opposite way to every other Scotrail EMU? ie the knuckle is at the coach end normally but these are the other way around?
Don't know the technical reason but the 365 knuckle points in the same direction

Might take a wee trip to Edinburgh today. The 1315 from Glasgow should be a 385 is that right?

Al Dalton from the Scotsman shared this picture which captures more of the moquette - I'm pleased to see it's real moquette too and not that flat cloth rubbish being used elsewhere…

Image description: Two fainsa 'ironing board' seats with a dark blue moquette and brightly coloured icons depicting various passengers who might use a 'Priority seat' (pregnant, persons carrying children, folks with mobility aids, a person with a broken leg etc).

It won't matter what moquette they use, the ironing board will still be horrendously uncomfortable.

Apologies again for the blatant plug and for double posting (this is already on the Glasgow Queen Street thread), but it might be of interest.

Driver training on 385014/015 from about 1’ 29” followed by a look at the 385 features shot on 385104/103 on the first day in service.

(Contains some dodgy continuity and flashing lights - has anyone found a frame rate to stop this happening on the headlights and PIS?)

Hey, you might need to edit that link, the code for it has gone haywire somewhere along the line. Fixed link:

Thanks lasandre!

I was trying to avoid embedding it in this thread (seemed a bit presumptuous) and just posting as a link, but funny things seemed to have happened as you say.

EDIT: It no longer seems possible just to post the link without the “https://“
header, and when I tried to correct it and posted the full link it went wheech and embedded itself again

Thanks for your help.

Delivery Paths are in RTT for both Tuesday and Friday next week. We'll see.

I was at Queen St from 1240 until 1400 but the new train didn’t make an appearance. I asked a couple of Scotrail gate line staff whether it was operating today but they were pretty clueless. Didn’t see it at Waverley either.

Seems like they weren’t out today. I was at Queen Street between 10:45 and 12:00 in the hope to catch one to Edinburgh. I eventually just took the 12:00 which was a 380/1 and took the 16:15 home which was a 365. I saw at least three 385s at Eastfield but none out in service.

I think you are being grossly unfair to gateline staff , they are there to assist passengers to the right platform, prevent folk from fare evading and help people who can't get through the automatic barriers, not keep track of what individual unit is diagramed on to satisfy trainspotters

Anyone know if any other units will be accepted by ScotRail anytime soon? I imagine they want as many units in service as possible for the festival.

It wasn't out today as it's not allowed out yet without Hitachi engineers on board, and they have a day off after a mega hectic week and long hours getting it into service. There are plenty of orher sets just now before more go to Northern.

The moquette has nothing to do with that though. The point is, some TOCs have switched to flat cloth (such as the ex ScotRail 170s at northern) - it doesn't wear well and stains really easily. Makes your new/refurbished train looks rubbish internally and will end up costing more on cosmetic maintenance.

With these and the 365s are the drivers opening doors and conductors closing??

Yes, Driver opens and Conductor closes. This was the agreement reached by ScotRail and the unions for operation of Electric units outwith the Strathclyde area (apart from the Airdrie - Bathgate line services).

Saturday is maintenance day for the two sets. Guess you will need to return after more have started working, which will have a different day.

The timing loads shown on Reatime Trains mean nothing in practice. The E&G has had class 385 timing loads since the December 2017 timetable change.

Right so what are you arguing, that timing loads shown on RTT do or don’t mean anything? In any case the 7 car 385 was not out in service yesterday.

Well it probably means something to someone at Scotrail/NR but unlikely that we will be able to figure out the method in the apparent madness.

I'm one of those in NR who knows perfectly well how train planning timing loads relate to real life operations and diagramming.
