Wasn't it part of the bid to have Newcastle - Carlisle 158 operated. To this end have any appeared at Heaton yet.
And, is one of the rust bucket knees under your chin 155's still at Brodies - seems to have been there ages. Should have gone for scrap.
K

It was the Northern Connect Newcastle to Carlisle services (which haven’t started yet) which will get 158s. I believe staff training for North East crews is back end of the year (Carlisle already sign them).

The additional 7 that HT have got are Angel's - I am told none are Porterbrook's
Before long Scotrail are releasing at least 5 to Northern and these too could of course go to HT
At present the NH fleet is split meaning that they have to clutter up their stores with both leasing companies spares - HT wouldn't want that!

Since May 20th the only Angel leased units I haven't seen in the NE are 468/89/91. I'm going to take an educuated guess and say these are the three Angel units that are possibly allocated to NH! However I could be wrong?

I logged 156491 in Newcastle on 26th May, this was a strike day however so diagrams may have been the usual. I saw the other two you mention in Manchester in July so they must still be Allerton.

Refurbished trains can now show all route stopping patterns but at the moment all TrainFX routes codes are in a 65 page booklet which is an absolute pain to look through as some services are repeated multiple times due to different stopping patterns!

We've had told eventually it'll work on headcode input

Well that's good news. Saying that we have the App on our phone but quicker to use the booklet. As you say though sme routes are duplicated due to stopping patterns so can easily get the wrong code. Should have one code per route with the option of elminating the appropriate stops.

It was outside of Brodies when I passed on Saturday, fully painted. Unsure about the interior.

The 155s are now taking around 4mth each to do, certainly no worse time than the 150s at Kilmarnock, and 158845 which has been at Crewe since January.
Think the long time taken for the first 155 to be completed was at least in part due to the lack of original design drawings to work from, once they had done the first set they then had a better understanding of the work needed and how to do it on the others hence the speed up.

Northern have some real challenges at present, not least with some lines experiencing low traffic volumes, and others with commuter hour heavy peaks. Class 153s are cropping up all over the place.

WP_20180721_10_14_39_Pro.jpg

Here 153315 is waiting at Sheffield to depart with the 10.15 for Leeds via Moorthorpe, due Leeds 11.30. 153328 seems to have joined the Nottingham-Leeds via Barnsley due to leave at 10.18, due Leeds 11.15.

Will the 153s be scrapped or given further life? They seem to be too useful at present.

Last week a pair of ex-GWR 153s were working up and down the S&C for a couple of days, so they are definitely getting around as Northern seem to getting the absolute most out of them. And I've even seen a 156 in multiple with various other units lurking around in Leeds on the Southport runs.

Well there is no reason why they carn't make full use of them until the end of 2019, the problem then being you either you either need to put in a fully PRM toilet which will take loads of seats, or have no Toilet at all, obviously you could look at semi perm coupling to another unit with a PRM Toilet, have pairs of 153 perm coupled and put a PRM toilet in one of them, but so far the intention seems to get rid. Northern don't have many 3 car units at present but that will change with the arrival of more 170's, 195's and the plan to reform some 150's, and obviously single car working should go.

I wonder if semi-permanently attaching some to 155s would make any sense? I know there's only 7 left, but it would give Northern some capacity increases on the routes that the 155s would work. All they'd need would be a standard refurb then as a compliant toilet, disabled / priority space would be available in the 155 portion.

RTT shows there was a 15.30 Wolverton-Allerton on Thurs 27/7, timed for a 319. Anyone know the set involved please?

Does anybody have an idea when the first 158 with the new seats in will return? Obviously priority is PRM compliance and most likely going to be ironing boards anyway, but just wondering.
I do hope these 158 wil be better refurbished the one i used 3 monnths ago was cheaply done and wasnt fir for regional distance travel seats badly trimmed and caroet looked a mess

Brodie's work is usually quite good, which is where all the 158s are getting done I believe.

All the refurbed 158s I've been on have still had the original moquette (well, it was the Northern Rail stripy moquette it had before the refurb). In many cases this looks terrible as it's fraying and saggy.
The quality of Northern's refurbs is generally poor.

Also, if some 158s are going to be used on Northern Connect services, shouldn't they have WiFi fitted? And if so, wouldn't it make more sense to do all of them for interoperability reasons and to prevent there being two grades of 158 (N. Connect standard and non-N. Connect standard)

We keep being told that this is just phase 1, still to come are:
- New seats
- Working Passenger info screens
- Wi-Fi
Can't remember about charging points

Is that additions to already-refurbed units or a separate tranche of refurbs?
If it’s the latter, then they’re running into the issue I mentioned above of having two levels of 158s, Connect quality and non-Connect quality, losing interoperability.

I'm not sure of the unit but the ex-LM 150/1 which was on the 10:41 Manchester to Chester today is in urgent need of an overhaul both internally and mechanically.

'The new seats' on 150s and 319s means new covers, new cushions and repaint plus fixing any problems.

158s are getting new 'ironing board' seats with extra padding. Whether any of the 156s will get them is unclear (there will also be 5 arriving from Scotrail with their original seats.)

I understand that a 2 car 158 is at Crewe for work, not at Kilmarnock?

I've seen a picture of it with an ERTMS cabinet and wiring, Fainsa seating, sockets and electronic seat reservations.
