What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Regarding the Maryhill Park line, although this is an unscientific observation, these are the first services to get cancelled during disruption.

Also, the areas where the stations are located along the line have a high proportion of residents who do not have access to a private car, despite a very poor bus service that halfheartedly connects the areas to each other such as Kelvindale to Maryhill and Anniesland being every 60 minutes with no Sunday service.

Except for capacity through the flat junction at Cowlairs and the single track, wrong line working through Westerton!

Which is why you use the existing Maryhill paths, not extra ones. These redirected North Clyde line services would call at the usual stations on the Maryhill route, minus Anniesland and Kelvindale. Therefore, there would be no difference to the pathing and timetabling at Queen Street HL. The only possible reason for a change to be made would be due to the increased length of the EMUs running on the route.

The single-line working at Westerton isn't going to be a problem either, because this entire re-routing would only happen due to engineering works. It's not a realistic nor desirable normal service pattern. However, if there's a planned blockage between Hyndland and Partick, this essentially disconnects the entire rail service north-west of Glasgow. Therefore, there'd be an effective clean slate available to make the timetable work. The entire timetable would be written around when Maryhill trains would be able to present themselves at Knightswood North junction on their existing path out of Queen Street.

Again, this is not an idea about a normal everyday service. It's just a newly-available option to keep the rail network going when there's a need to block Hyndland to Partick.

With the press release saying 7 or 8 coach trains on Edi to Gla next week, then I suspect it will be

4 x 8 car 365
2 x 7 car 380
2 x 7 car 385

Or

4 x 8 car 365
3 x 7 car 380
1 x 7 car 385

Think there is enough 318/320 availability to get another 3 car 380 from Inverclyde to add to the 4 car 380 running about on E&G.

Are there many 318/320 s on the Inverclyde s at the moment?

Today, the 385 pair was operating xx00 services, odd hours from Queen Street and even from Waverley. Had my first journey on one today and I have to say I thought they were a bit bland and overrated. I personally prefer the 380s on EG services. But that’s just my opinion

I experienced the 385 for the first time on Thursday. Wasn't overly enthralled by it.

Actually prefer the 365s doing the route...

Aye there not that exciting , the thing for me is the EMUs faster acceleration . The seating layout is great if you love bays of 4 .

Not a fan of a table of 4. Much prefer airline seating these days.

Same here the 365s are quite good for it .

On long journeys tend to avoid bays of 4 as if gets busy you can find yourself surrounded by a group or turfed out . Seen that on a pendo a few weeks ago , the lady was asked by a group of 4 ladies to move as they wanted the bay of 4 .

The 365s have been pretty terrible so far. I’ll be glad to see them replaced with 385s personally.

Today's recent Departures from Queen Street show
1245 158
1300 385
1315 385
1330 158
In reality more likely to be
1245 1x 365
1300 2x 380
1315 2x 385
1330 2x 365
Unless more 385s have started today.

I spent the weekend of May 26th / 27th in Edinburgh. As my hotel was in Polmont I rode class 170s on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. This now feels like it was of a historic era!

As of the start of last week class 170s now only step up to cover for failures. Otherwise the E&G is all electric traction daily.

I'm looking forward to trying one out. I hate the bland look of the 380 units..far too clinical.

Just a thought, do Hitachi make diesel versions of this series?

If you think the 380s are clinical, I find the 385s even more clinical. Far too bland

Surely the addition of carpets give the units a slightly better ambiance than the 380. As I said I haven't been on one yet however by the looks of it the lighting could do with being subdued especially in first class. Speaking of which no curtains or table lamps...disappointing!

The carpets will be fine for a week or 2, then once the winter comes they'll be manky with wet, salty feet traipsing over them along with spilt beer/wine and sickness mixed in for good measure! carpets in a commuter train are not ideal - especially on some of the routes the 385 will work eg; Cathcart Cirle etc.

Maybe so not but the E&G units should have them.

I’ve never considered the 170 carpets too bad on the E-G, the 158s to Dunblane however....

I'll never understand the modern obsession with full on bright lights in the coach.

I hate first class table lamps (at least on the 158s. Not sure I've encountered them elsewhere).
They block up the table, leaving less room for the multiple laptops that the occupants want to put there!
