Given the fact that it's a heavily reduced weekend service, they must have the rolling stock. You're right, it's baffling and pretty inept.

I'm sure it will be down to drivers unable to drive the 700s and as such the Cambridge stoppers will be back to 4 car, as they always were.

Just got on the 2211 ex-KGX at Cambridge, which was also a whole 4 carriages on arrival despite announcements at CBG that the train would be dividing, and the onboard PIS seeming to believe it had 12 (!).

Still, at least it is running...

Is Saturday part of the drivers working week? It is just Sunday they need volunteers?

1) Yes.
2) The complete Sunday service, yes. Although weekdays and Saturdays also require volunteers to work their days off to fill uncovered turns. Saturdays have less volunteers. Saturdays in school holidays have even less volunteers.

...unlike the following train, the last of the evening north of Cambridge, which appears to have cancelled between KGX and CBG and replaced by a bus between CBG and KLN, despite no notification of engineering work.

Hopefully no-one was trying to get from London to say Ely, because it looks like they won't :(

Looks like another poor Monday morning with driver shortages. Good job Mr Cheshire said there were definitely enough drivers.

Yes it does look like normal service is back today. 1621 and 1636 from Kings Cross both cancelled.

GN outers at 61% and inners at 71%.

Yes, and still getting many northbound ex-core services picking up double-digit delay minutes. This is partly why the figures are stubbornly poor, and isn't sustainable if the number of such services increases.

Last week my 365 service home was delayed at Hitchin four out of five evenings due to the preceding Horsham/Peterborough service being late. On the fifth evening the Thameslink was so late that it ran behind so the 365 arrived early! All in all, not good enough.

Chaos at Finsbury Park now apparently. 18.21 KGX-Cambridge cancelled too. Cancellations on the Moorgate line. Shambles.

Yes, but the chaos isn't due to any shortages of drivers..

Ironically it's the 16:36 that was previously cancelled then reinstated that is blocking the line...

Thanks. Any timetable depending on volunteers is always going to end in tears. Especially if management/ passengers (or both in this instance) treat them so badly.

Yep. Passenger pulled the emergency chord because they got on the wrong train apparently. Can't blame GTR for idiots like that.

I'd love to see the imbecile concerned sued for the cost of every resultant delay minute/delay repay claim.

There is a common thought amongst some forumites that if you are being overcarried it is a legitimate use of the Passcom.

However if you're a family travelling and one of the kids gets separated from the family, is that a acceptable use?

I'm talking kids younger then 12 here btw, or do you just get off at the next station and hope there's staff there?

Generally I no longer care. Pull the passcom in a station and I will stop the train. Pull it outside and I wont. If it causes a delay then you just have to accept that someone pulled the passom and you will be delayed because of it. No point in calling for their head on a plate or huge fine or arguing the minutiae of each specific use.

In that case there was no need to pull the pass comm if a responsible adult is with the child as it was the child's father was so no big deal

Says who ? You are making many assumptions about responsibility and the thoughts and feelings of the Mother. She felt she needed to pull the cord. It is nobody elses decision and nobody has any real right to decide the right or wrong of it.

however I'm questioning if the child was left on their own with NO responsible adult with them so is different to the example you have quoted.

It is very easy to engineer a situation where there is a clear need to use it. I can't see any point your making other than to say this is a situation where it should be pulled. My Daughter is 11. I would simply call her mobile and get her to get the next train. There is no responsible adult and she is under 12. You then hit back with but its the last train and its 0045, in a bad neighborhood and your next stop is 50 miles down the line. etc etc.

Honestly, if you feel the need to pull it then do so.

The father was with the daughter the whole time, a simple call to them would have calmed her down no end, to turn round and say what she said, well is a tad tackless.

I'm not making any assumptions just asked if it was a acceptable use of the passcomm when you have young children with you who get separated from a responsible adult and they're left on their own.

As to your statement about a train being the last train at 0045 in a bad neighbourhood etc then it's the responsibility of the staff be onboard or station based to ensure they're looked after until a responsible adult can pick them up.

You don't need to rant away you know btw!

Would the same apply to the imbeciles who fail to make sure changeover drivers are waiting at Finsbury Park so causing delays and claims...

What staff ? Many, if not most, of our stations are unmanned, especially late night. I am also DOO so there would be nothing I could do. It would be quicker to call the police.

Apologies if I came across as ranty. I feel that way sometimes with stuff like this and it makes me angry that there is even a debate about it. My PERSONAL feeling is that it is specifically for emergency only. Passengers seem to be quite the opposite. I had one pulled because someone wouldn't turn their headphones down :/ I've had one pulled for a 9yr old left at a station and the responsible adult didn't realize for about 15 minutes. Suffice to say we were a fair distance away by then. Passenger behavior is dumb at the best of times and I've seen and heard some crazy stuff over the years. Passcom is easy to deal with. It will 100% cause a delay and even a cancellation. Consequences and personal responsibility no longer seem to matter in this 'modern' world.

Typical morning this morning

0607 Horsham - Peterboroughservice running 30 late.
0624 Peterborough - Horsham blocks platform 2 at Finsbury Park. Because of this.

Delays lots of other services as now platform 2 is blocked.

0652 Cambridge- Brighton service moved to platform 4 but platform staff don’t know if it 1 has a driver or 2 if it is likely to go before the Horsham service.

Such a small incident rapidly snowballing of the reasons comUtoR explained in previous posts.

Changing drivers at Finsbury Park seems very risky.

Humans are incredibly stupid creatures.

There is a switch in mentality when going through the barriers. If you have ever 'people watched' then you would see it. I see thousands of people every week. Their behavior is truly insane.

A simple example is the 'hustle alarm' Passengers will dive through a closing door, jam their limbs in it and even jam a pushchair in it. That is incredibly stupid, yet, every single day someone will do it.

A recent thread about the yellow line also highlights a weird passenger trait. When we had the single white line people stood with their toes against it. Now we have a yellow one, people stand with their toes against it. If we painted a red one 2 inches back, I guarantee they will stand with their toes on that line too. It is the human in us that does little silly things like this. There is a whole platform to stand on but something in us drives us right to the edge.

Its not a derogatory comment against passengers (I'm guilty of them too) but the gateline seems to wipe out a few braincells when you pass through it.

I'm sure many people can say the same with whatever industry they work in. Imagine what IT people think :)

Pulling a passcom because someone wouldn't turn their headphones down.. Yeah that's sensible :/

Trains were delayed due to a Trespass incident at East Croydon station at around 6am (until 6:45), Fast lines were blocked for a period while some trains were talked through on Caution on the other lines

Yep. Understand it will take until 1100 to get back to normal.

My point is the reactionary delays are sending the whole route into a tail spin.

As Bramling keeps highlighting, an incident south of the river is killing groups such as Moorgate- Welwyn / Hertford because of the reactionary delays.

Be interesting what the mitigation plan is for this.

London Bridge is in chaos as well. Trying to get from Dartford to City Thameslink terminated at LBG after waiting an age to get in. Finally got a northbound service but they’re using platform 6, seems to be a problem with 5
