Hi

Whats the difference and who operates what?

I thought that Transilien was basically the brand that SNCF used for regional trains in the Paris region. However this morning I saw a photo of a SNCF Ile de France Mobilités branded train. Who are they?

Wikipedia suggests that SNCF Transilien operate all the regional services in the Ile de France and also a few services into Normandy and the Val-de Loire. As well as jointly operating some of the Paris RER lines.

What then does SNCF Ile de France Mobilités operate?

Thanks in advance

Alex

SNCF Ile de France Mobilités do not exist; Ile de France Mobilités is basically the transportation 'arm' of the IdF region. Recent rolling stock liveries place more emphasis on the role played by the region in the organisation and funding of local transport, hence this SNCF+IdF Mobilités that you'd have seen on one of the trains.

Up to about a year ago, Ile de France Mobilités was known by the name "Syndicat des transports d'Île-de-France" (STIF in literature and liveries etc.) and a joint SNCF-STIF livery can be seen on some trains, mainly Z50000 Francilien units. (ie. http://transportparis.canalblog.com/archives/2015/08/24/32506527.html).

There was also an RATP version used on the metro, and new metro trains will get an RATP+Ile de France Mobilités livery (ie. https://www.railpassion.fr/transports-urbains/metro -rames-neuves-mp-14-ligne-11/)

Last year, it was said that the 'Transilien' and 'RER' brands were to simplified, to come under the generic term of 'train', but I haven't heard of any reports showing evidence of this change in motion.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. Helps a lot.

So basically "SNCF+IdF Mobilités" is similar to "TER Bourgogne Franche-Comte" etc.

The branding is of the operator and the region that helps pay for it?

Île-de-France Mobilités is the transport authority (think TfL or TfGM).
All public transport vehicles will now carry the new IDFM blue and silver livery, regardless of who operates the bus, train, or coach. IDFM is the organisation that puts the money on the table.

It is to be noted though that IDFM is just a public-facing brand, the name of the authority still is STIF (Syndicat des Transports d'Île-de-France).

The operator branding will disappear completely, and the IDFM visual identity is taking over more than just vehicles liveries, leading to a much-needed uniformisation.
