This is more for information and putting it in one place rather than the various threads on the IETs spread across RUKF.

The plan is to introduce the first 802s on 20th august 2018 and the following information is from non-sensitive internal memos which may be useful to some.

Acceptance dates:
802003 and 005 15 aug
006 and 007 17 aug
003 and 005 req to be at Laira Depot (LA) for start of service 20 aug; these sets are due to me moved from Stoke Gifford eve of 15 or am of 16 aug
17 aug one of these to go to Penzance for depot clearance and depot staff training then to headback to LA via Exeter for a low key launch event
006 and 007 req to be at North Pole for start of service 20 aug
consideration of putting 006/007 together on a 800 diagram on sat finishing at North Pole as a positioning move
plans are to run all 6 5car sets until next two are accepted on 29 aug with 9car 101 acting as spare with 001 and 002 as last minute standby subject to training requirements

Of course, this may all be subject to a butterfly in a distant jungle flapping its wings .....!!!

Yes thanks very much for this. From the diagram thread I understand the first 'regular' workings will be the 05.53 Plymouth (PLY) - London Paddington (PAD) and 07.30 PAD - Penzance (PNZ) via BRI. Is this still the case?

802005 became the first of the class and First ever Hitachi unit to arrive at GWR Long Rock depot a few minutes ago. It is due to leave tomorrow morning.

Has anyone checked the weather forecast to ensure a Voyager doesn't get stranded on the sea wall in front of it

Make sure to bring an umbrella next time. You don't want to get yourself wet like what happened last time with the class 800 introduction day.:lol::lol:

Some have said that the seats on the Class 802 are nicer than on the 800? Can someone please explain this because the seats look identical to me.

I noticed on the youtube clip Mark Hopwood gets virtually everything wrong about the 802`s. Says a lot really.

They are worse in my opinion. Same awful non padded upright seat but covered with a different fabric. I found the seat even less comfortable than an 800 seat . The future is here and it's painful..........

More seats = more passengers = more money. Comfort doesn't matter because you've got to remember that railways are a business.

Yes, the railways are a business. Not sure why that's an issue. And seat comfort is subjective. I've done 3 hours on one journey in a Class 800 and was not at all discomfited during the journey, or any the worse for it afterward.

But that's not true of the 80x. First of all the spec was by a civil servant. Secondly, the actual *spacing* is the most generous of any current UK stock - if they wanted to cram seats in they could have done, but they haven't.

Please note that this thread is not yet another opportunity to discuss the merits or otherwise of whichever seat people are currently in love with or wish to burn with fire. Please use either an existing appropriate thread or start a new thread if anyone wishes to discuss their subjective opinion on seat comfort.

Many thanks,

I saw a fair few IEP’s during last week on holiday at Dawlish.
A lot of Hst’s from GWR & CrossCountry.
A couple of surprises were two GWR class 158’s, one in green the other in the old colours, also 2x37’s & a couple of freights. Good weather too.
Back home in damp Leicestershire now, ah well.

Does anyone know whether the engines on the class 802 are operating at the 700kW rating that was publicised when the trains were ordered?

Already know 9/10 car won't fit in the yard !

Yes, and they are all planned to be 10 cars to / from Penzance by end of October afaik.

Next weeks trial is to see if a 10 car set can fit in Old Bank amongst other things!

Probably no again.

.....to load broccoli :)

I remember that going by rail!

Reminds me of a story told by a former work colleague who said a loaded fish van got taken off a up train at Truro due to a hot box and put in the sidings.
It was then forgotten about and the fish went off, the people living in Dobb's Lane in Truro weren't happy.

802102 is at North pole.
Noted 802019 has GWR logo on its nose, not seen any others like it
