I still think people need to look at the bigger picture, because people are not comparing the service on the main factors rather the brand...

When are the tenders up in the area??
Might be another step for Lothian and also impact Horsburgh and Blue Bus. Easy way to expand by winning these!

The tenders should be up for grabs next, but its been stated the council may continue for a 5 years period, but if you think Lothian would take on the 9, 31 and 40 then maybe council would take risk and go for next years.

With the commercial services going against First, winning some of the local services at renewal might also push others to question local service operation.
We see them doing similar to Prentice and tightening their approach with them.

Will we see some tender wins here and push the remaining local operators out and no longer have Prentice of Haddington, First, Edinburgh coach Lines and Horsburgh - at least out of local service operation in the Lothian areas.

In my opinion Prentice have the upper hand in that game, they accept contactless.

I dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but today, around 1:30pm, I saw one of these buses eithier overheating, or in the process of catching fire.
There was quite a bit steam or smoke pouring out of the back of it.
This was on the road running under the dual carriageway bridge, heading towards the Almondvale Centre.
The driver was on the phone outside of the bus.

Because the road is only one way, I could not see what the outcome was when I left the Almondvale Centre. I also did not get the reg number.

There has been reports of a bus being towed back to the depot..

I dont think Prentice of Haddington will lose out as Sam120 has said its upped it game and is in a good postion to make gain in the next tender round. However maybe Eves will lose out in East lothian. Horsburgh might lose out, but it will have its school contracts to fall back on. Alot of people complain about them aswell. But just think for a min, if LCB wins 40/X40 Livingston - Edinburgh Royal infirmary.

Once again people as not happy with the fares on the LCB wesbite

There's no excuse for rude drivers but what I see is those "rude drivers" decide to change companies , maybe due to the complaints received , but go to Lothian and the same so called rude drivers are suddenly brilliant and polite , as seen by the same folk who reported them for being rude .!? Is it the brand name ?

Won't take long before Lothian / ECB accept contactless. Do find it rather silly that Lothian Country isn't on day one despite them getting the new machines. It'll just make some people stick to using First. Obviously it'll be rectified in the future but still.

Transport Scotland should have funded every operator to get contactless machines just like they gave companies free ticket machines for the concession cards over a decade ago. More and more passengers are wanting to pay by contactless but the operators don't have the facility, a large majority of them getting new Ticketer machines but without the contactless function which would require new parts to be expensively installed.

It may be a combination of things like better pay, working conditions and management who respect their staff and value them more than other companies. Of course, the name is a big factor as well as being a respected company in the Bus industry. If management have staff who enjoy going into work, then they will - or should have - folk who will provide a good service and do their best to be proud of who they work for. Or am I just being too old-fashioned in saying 'A good days pay for a good days work'?

Mal makes a great point and I think that applies in any industry. Making a comparison to the rail industry there is a stigma among some around agency workers from the likes of Scotweld or Vital yet when experienced guys from these companies join NR or the likes they generally do well. More guaranteed work, a rostering system that works and better pensions and perks (not in NR) should show an improvement in quality of life so that person will obviously be happier at work. Well that's the theory anyway lol

I know. Before I retired, I was a Civil Servant and after my department was merged with another, I lost count of the number of times that I got off the bus at work and almost got on the next one to go back home!!

that's the problem
it's been said that it will cost Lothian millions to put contactless on the fleet off around 900 buses
they are staggering it first with ECB getting it first then slowly running it out onto LCB Then LB
by the end off the year we should have them

Just seen all white with LCB branding fleet no 592 (YP11YAY) on the 275. Change from the 10** numbering or is this one of the buses that was swapped for some of the Scanias?

The LP11 deckers are the four from Bullocks that were part of a trade for six Scania deckers. I see it has been retrimmed, presumably the assumption were that they were going to get the complete refurbs at Wrights but it does not seem to be the case for now. Need to put out anything on the road right now until enough refurbs have arrived.

That would explain the other couple of white hybrids on the routes today.

Would anyone happen to know the PVR of all the new routes together?

It would seem:

* 7 buses for 275
* 8 buses for the 27/28
PVR for 275 is indeed 7. PVR for X27/X28 is 9. When a bus arrives at Regent Road it heads to Central for fuel rather than having the 10-15 min layover. So if it arrives into Edinburgh as an X28 it heads to Central then does the X27 departing 45 mins afterwords vice versa

First Will most likely have to send drivers Livingston to ever any short fall. I dare say Glasgow or Stirling. First are not givng up.

From what I've gathered lcb already have all the drivers it needs for phrase 2. So any one jumping won't get in until phrase 3 in Dec or Jan.

It's a right cat and mouse game for passengers, who are the real winners out of this. Its seems there is roadworks at Boghall, so its not helping anyone. Both companies are carrying passengers.

Not for ENTCS passengers. And maybe some West Lothian residents are happy to pay high fares for a perceived or actual improvement in service. (I can't believe Lothian aren't offering weekly or monthly tickets though). Lothian don't necessarily need to carry that many passengers - First Group in their current state might give up once Lothian have peeled off enough custom to put First in the red, even if Lothian are losing more.
