On my way to work today, I saw the 1137 Hall-i'th-Wood depart towards Clitheroe as three units but the last one was in a green colour. I assume this to be a 153. Is there a gWr unit on loan to Northern Rail or am I mistaken?

Many GWR class 150s and 153s have transferred to Northern, and some are still in GWR colour and are yet to be reliveried.

I believe (think??) three GWR 'Green' liveried 153's are now transferred to Northern.

If my count is correct, 5 x 153s and 15 x 150/1s together with a Hybrid 150/2 have transferred from GWR to Northern this year with all the 153s, except 305, in new GWR Livery but yet to be reliveried as has already been mentioned in Post #2. Most of the other ones still have the old FGW Blue Livery 153305, known as Casper, is white as it'[s future hadn'[t been finally confirmed at the time of its last paint. There is plenty of info about this on the Forum but scattered round several threads. The 153s are eventually going to Scotrail as luggage vans

Yep as others have said there are a few, I'll add a photo of 153373 at Sheffield round early August (sorry for terrible quality, my train was on the opposite platform about to leave)

Hi Gathursty. There’s still a few running around the North in FGW/GWR livery. Here is a few pics I took at Blackburn at the end of July.

Seems a waste of time and money painting them then sending them off...

GWR franchise was due to end next March anyway so had DfT not decided to extend it again then we could have seen the Sprinters getting repainted again.

The 153s are only temporary additions to the Northern fleet to partly make up for other units being delayed.

Look at that gangway door on 150209/150212. I guess it hasn’t been given a clean for some time due to how it worked previously (sandwiched inbetween two 150/1 carriages).

I saw 150120 at Guide Bridge a few days ago that was still painted in FGW colours, but with no branding.

Fab photos @djpontrack and @skifans. Only on this forum can you get 4 detailed replies in 12 minutes! I was unaware Northern had gained any more units so thanks for the gen.

Ooh they've formed up 150209 and sent it into traffic - they must be desperate! I do wonder whether it is instructed to always be accompanied (such as in this case) to provide a toilet.

More Barnstaple than Blackburn with that sort of combo!

Apart from the 150209 hybrid, are there any differences to these units other than cosmetic ones? The former Western Region 153s seem a little shy in making Barton, I was wondering if it was just chance that only a couple had appeared or whether there are deliberate attempts to keep them away.

It's nice to see that Northern have put their own destination blinds in. Full marks to them for that!

It’s got its own permanent diagram on the Blackburn to Rochdale’s semi-permanently coupled to a 153 (for the toilet) the 153 used will obviously rotate.

There are still a couple of dogboxes with GWR. I've been on a coupling of 153325 and 150207 (Northern livery) on the 1557 Plymouth to Penzance all stations. I must say, the Northern unit was in much worse shape than the usual 150/0.

That unit transferred because it is in need of refurbishment. Northern weren't exactly going to give up a unit they had just refurbished when they are behind with refurbishments due to receiving 150s from GWR late.
