Following the consultation about the new XC franchise, when would the public know if say Liverpool has been put back as a destination for this franchise?

When the award is announced, you will know for certain.

The tender may or may not be enlightening.

I know that the dft have paused/stopped the bidding franchise for the crosscountry franchise but given the current franchise ends in about a year does anyone know what is happening with this franchise?

Nobody has a clue, pending the Rail Review outcome sometime late next year.
If there are major industry organisational changes, the XC route map won't be high on the agenda.
Until then, Arriva will just run the existing timetable (maybe with a few efficiency tweaks).

An existing thread already existed with exactly the same name as this and was locked? Due to no new cross country franchise forthcoming for reasons above.

Non confirmed.
Well, let's put it this way. There's no longer time to run a fresh franchise competition before the current extension ends. When that happens the incumbent gets a chance for a DA and everyone except Stagecoach takes it.

At least that's my official explanation.

Still no news on the CrossCountry franchise so no need for a thread to remain open now that the OP's question has been answered. When there is news I'm sure someone will post a thread to enable discussion of that news. Otherwise the only things left to talk about when it comes to the future of the franchise is almost certainly speculation which will fit happily into our new Speculative Ideas section ;)
