Hello all

I have been asked to interview with Chiltern rail and would be very grateful for any help with the questions below.

Are there any qualified drivers at Banbury on here?
What’s the work like?
How does the Sunday’s outside work here?
Is there a lot of nights?
Any other reasons for and against Chiltern?
Is it difficult to get into Banbury?
Does anybody have the roster for Banbury ( or the one which new starters go into)?

Also what are the interview questioned like, are they more rules and regs or do they prefer a lot of info about the company?

Thanks in advance

I've also applied for Banbury.
From what I've last heard there's no nights at Banbury.
Sunday's are completely outside so you only need 7 days notice not to work it.
Cant help on the other stuff but I've had an email aswell saying they are sorting out an interview date.
Have you been given a date already?
Apparently there's only 1 vacancy.

It's 14 days notice you need to give to be unavailable for a Sunday.

No night turns although I believe on fri/sat there's a job finishing around 3am.

Routes are Marylebone to Birmingham snow hill, Hatton to Stratford upon avon, Banbury to Oxford via Heyford, Marylebone to Oxford, Marylebone to Aylesbury via Amersham/high wycombe.

Traction is 165, 168 and 172

Just 1 roster

Cheers for that, 14 days is quite a lot for a Sunday notice though I must admit.
Is it a 4 day week?

Hello all. New member here and congrats to you getting through to the interview stage.

I have also been invited for an Interview and would just like to gather as much information as possible too please.

If anyone recently has been through the process amd could share some info, that would be great!

Depot I applied for was Marylebone by the way. Anyway, good luck all

PS. Everyone I have spoken to says Chiltern Railways is an excellent company to work for, is that still the case?

Thanks all

It's better then most I believe. I've been rejected for Banbury now as they don't accept any relocations and the vacancy has already gone I believe. Seems there was an internal move lined up all along.
Not impressed tbh.

Ive been there since 1995 and i am very happy with the working enviroment.
That's what needs protecting mate. A good working environment and good relationship with the company. Too many drivers and union reps are selling the furniture for money. I'm happy with the pay we get now. More people need to think about life balance

Well said that man the union is selling people out by letting crap T&C's being bought in and soon the job will go to pot just for a few extra quid the TOC's are rubbing their hands at the moronic attitude of some of our colleagues and why is the union allowing crap terms even getting to the voting table??? I for one have jacked in my union membership exactly for that reason if i want to get mugged off ill by double glazing from a call caller.

To be fair, not being in the union means you'll just accept whatever the union agrees anyway and have no right to complain. At least as a member you have a voice and the chance to escalate things up through your branch, influencing both local and national union policy. Too many union members thinking the union is separate and apart from the members when it is actually the members that make the union. "The union should go this, or the union should do that". Most of these people have never even attended their branch!

Could this thread return to the topic of Qualified drivers on Chiltern and not a pro/ anti union rant....

Earliest Mon-Fri 04.21 latest book on Mon-Fri 23.31. Aylesbury sign all of the local routes up as far as Snow Hill except Stratford and Wembley Depot. Traction is all unit based.

Hello Chiltern drivers and all,
Thinking about a move to Aylesbury. ..managed to get hold of the diagrams, damn they seem like a drivers dream compared to say a driver at Waterloo averaging 90 stops a day!

Want to ask, do you get enhanced rates of pay for rest days? I heard about the Sunday premium, nice. Thanks

Always good to have a minimum, cool.

I'm assuming it's flat rate free day pay then?

Thanks Southerner2174, it's not a deal breaker really, but good to know. Would you recommend Aylesbury as a good place of work for drivers?

Thanks in advance
