Left Taunton 245 late. 602 is this years black sheep -bang goes my easy day !

According to OTT train is still at Taunton, think the spurious departure time may be due to assisting loco running round onto the front.

A voyager got past it at Taunton.

Departed Taunton 300 minutes late. it’s got an hour booked at Exeter and around 40 minutes at Plymouth and ‘not to calls’ for Bodmin and Lostwithiel so should hopefully make up quite a bit of time.

After the seriously delayed Penzance to London HST in August 5 years ago (11:00 service I think) which thankfully I wasn't on, you'd have thought a repeat of a 5-hour delay would never ever happen again. Even Mark Hopwood said it's not acceptable to delay passengers that long, yet it's happened again.

I feel sorry for the passengers who were traveling to the stations the sleeper service isn't calling at - to wait for around 5 hours and then be told that it's skipping stops basically is really unfair to those travelling to the cancelled stops.

However, I guess it's not that simple to arrange for a replacement train in the early hours. I'm surprised I've not read this on Twitter.

Service has been overtaken so any customers requiring those stations would have been transferred. Service also continuing to get stock down to us.

In other news, Long Rock depot open day next Easter. Details to follow when known.

Ooooooft. Thanks for this info - but i stupidly didn't check this site yesterday and have indeed missed it. Is it likely to be the loco used tonight to go back to London - or would i be best to go to Penzance and try to see it on depot today?

Thanks for helping an old guy out.

Just read the full thread and realised 57 602 was a bit sick last night.
looks like it has only just arrived in Penzance at 11:02.......?
Assuming it wasn't taken off somewhere along the route and dumped in the bushes.

If someone would be kind enough to confirm if it made it please - i think my best bet would be to go to Penzance as it may be a while before they trust it "up front" again and i am only in Cornwall till Monday.

47 337 - still trying it's best to frustrate me.

57602 arrived at Penzance with 57604 on the front. Failed at Langport so 57604 sent from Reading to assist on rear to Taunton where it ran round and both locos arrived on the front at Penzance.

Wish me luck and stay tuned - we are off to Penzance.

Not exactly easy to get a train moving instantly from the middle of nowhere at 2am in the morning, where the nearest rescue loco is over 1 and a half hours away in Reading!

IMG_2554.jpg IMG_2567.jpg So..............

After a gap of 35 years...... between a sighting of 47 333 at Crewe until today ...... i have, (at last), completed the sightings of all 528 Class 47's with a memorable capture of 47 337 inside Long Rock Depot shed in Penzance. Even though it is now 57 602 - it is still very much a 47 in many aspects.

I didn't need to cry. The nice man on the gate liked my story and said he would phone his boss. The boss liked my story over the phone and offered to come get me at the gate and walk me inside to see THE BEAST.

And here is the proof that has made an old, fat, retired train spotter vary happy.
I was even allowed to give it a wee pat on the side.

I am reliably told that the fitters have been over it and it should be fixed and released in a "day or two".

Thanks to everyone who helped me find this loco and brought a long tale to a happy ending.

Now ....... if anyone finds a razor blade with 40 090 on the side - will you let me know please?

Stuart, I shall show your post to "his boss" when I'm back in on Friday ! Cheers.

Thanks co-tr-paul.
I am terrible with names.

Man at gate said he was a proud Scouser.
Boss man did tell me his name - but it now eludes me.
He introduced me to the Depot Manager - so "Boss man" was not the manager.

Please thank them both for me - both proper gents.

And sorry to you all for exaggerating all the way to 528...... it has been 35 years since i last used a Locoshed.....!

Today was a good day and now relaxing with a fine Single Malt - i brought with me.

It was not the depot manager but the person in charge of the shift + shan't mention names on here ! The guard has a personality !!

47337 I mean 57602/is penciled in for Sunday's up.
The 10 car thingey tested yesterday didn't fit hardly anywhere....... .
Some red 57s fuelled this afternoon, 313/314 with the Northern Belle.
A staff member who owns a few classic buses has been asked to do a shuttle service for the open day from station.
