Nothing wrong with speculating.
But if you’ve got their email....
No, there isn't anything inherently wrong with speculation in this case as there isn't any pending criminal investigation. That said, RAIB are on the case already so it may be wise to wait for their report to come out first rather than second guessing what may have happened.

It is of course perfectly fine for anyone wishing to learn a bit more about such cases to ask related questions.

One for the likes of @Bald Rick but what's the process now once the RAIB have finished with the incident?

How do they re-rail the derailed part of the freight train?
What does Network Rail need to do to ensure the track is fit for use?
What happens to the undamaged part of the derailed train that's still on the line?
Do they simply uncouple the last most wagon from the derailed one and have it continue on it's journey even if it means looping at Daventry/Rugby/Northampton/Wembley etc?

To answer your questions in general terms
1) probably a mix of cranes and jacking
2) probably a mix of packing, slewing and relaying. Damaged pointwork may be temporarily replaced with plain line.
3) will be inspected and probably sent forward to planned destination.
4) see (3). Note underailed are sometimes at front of train.

Well my commute this morning was 2.5hrs so lets hope this happens. I did manage to get a proper train from Tamworth, a HST, so there are some benefits :D

The points under the train have been causing trouble all summer due to heat, thats all im saying.
That's interesting, as we're now in the first cold spell after a long unusually hot summer...

Nice to see an hourly Leicester - Nuneaton service in place. I wonder if it's the same units going back and forth?

Some hefty delays to the diverted Birmingham-Stansted services today. Delays ranging from 20 minutes earlier this morning through to 67 minutes currently. Guess the paths available arent great and that they end up follow a number of other services.

Trouble is once they get to say New Street they turn around and come back again fairly sharpish, or at least the crews do, so about 30 minutes lost from Leicester to New Street quickly becomes 60 minutes by the time it's got back to Leicester again.

No idea why they can't split the service at Leicester and run a service between Birmingham to Leicester via Castle Donnington and run a service Leicester to Stansted Airport especially as East Midlands Trains did it back in 2016 when they had engineering works which meant they operated Norwich to Nottingham via Melton Mowbray and Nottingham to Liverpool Lime Street least if the service was split during the duration of the emergency engineering works, the delays would be minimal and it would be a better service then currently being offered though no fault of the railway.

Of course there's plenty a reason or two why the service hasn't been split...

I dunno, you might end up spending half your time stood waiting a crew at Leicester occupying platforms that are sorely needed as it is. It's easy enough to do something when you've weeks notice, less so when there's only hours. The Liverpools are a different kettle of fish to the Birminghams anyway, passing through Nottingham where they often split.

Yes and yes, though the unaffected portion is due to resume its booked path to Felixstowe (albeit 24hrs late)...not sure if its moved yet.
Breakdown train (1X99) is due onsite around 1800.
