There are no trains in the area around Bristol Parkway for 3 weeks from Saturday 15th September. I’ve heard that XC services between Birmingham New Street and Bristol Temple Meads are diverted and will be calling at Gloucester and Newport. I’ve also read that XC will only be running hourly between Birmingham and Bristol for those 3 weeks with mainly only the NE to SW trains running. A small number of these trains will terminate at Exeter St David’s instead of running through to Plymouth and also Newcastle instead of to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Does anyone know whether any of these trains will be double Voyager sets, at least between Birmingham and Bristol, if the service is to be hourly with no trains from Manchester to the SW running. I suppose Manchester passengers could travel via Shrewsbury and change at Newport.

Manchester to South West passengers can use ATW via Shrewsbury and catch the XC services down south at Newport.

Just checked RTT and the service doesn't show at all so it must be going empty, but it's the last section of a 800 diagram going back to shed so it has to get back somehow

It does show in RTT which is why I commented as I did in #Post4

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C40496/2018/09/18/advanced

It is also shown in Journey Planner.

The ECS (5T48) is shown as running to SPM via Swindon (Reverse) and Chippenham

I'll Tweet GWR on Monday, no point before because Train Planning won't be in

GWR running hourly via Bath then onto Dr Days to Filton through to South Wales.

XC as said calling at Newport and Gloucester additionally, a good opportunity for Gloucester as they always miss out on services.

1837 London Paddington to Cheltenham Spa will terminate on Platform Two, travel up to the sidings, reverse and run empty to St Philips Marsh. This is the unit that operates 2120.

My local station, Lawrence Hill, will be busier than normal then.

Still see the usual XC services, CDF - TAU/Pompey units, Severn Beach line services, along with the BPW - WSM services (starting at Filton). Not much loss in the usual traffic volumes currently.

Add into that the diverted South Wales - Paddington services and a small amount of diverted GWML freight, along with the little freight it currently sees, primarily from Portbury and Westbury, then the Filton Bank lines will surely be at max capacity during the blockade.

Shame the ongoing four tracking work isn't ready now.

But minus the services that are being removed from the timetable during the works.

There is very little being removed from the usual timetable.

The GWR units from BPW or Gloucester are starting at Filton Abbey Wood instead. XC are still running, diverting around BPW via Chepstow. Aside from a few extra commuter services, and some NW XC services, that's all I can think will go.

Although, I'm not sure how the IEP's are going to access Stoke Gifford depot, if indeed they can? If they can't, what does this mean for the IEP operated services?

The XC frequency is halved for a start.... No access to Stoke Gifford so a significant number of ECS moves will not run....

Is that blockade and this one part of a series for similar works - Filton Bank four tracking?

There must be some access to / from Stoke Gifford as some are still running including some additional STP moves.

Yes, was just about to post something similar. This one is at BPW as I type;

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V20152/2018/09/15/advanced

So there appears to be some access to/from Stoke Gifford depot during the blockade.

As mentioned on another thread there are special possession arrangements in place:

So it’s been very quite Train wise in the Hullavington/Rodbourne area (cabbage lane) yesterday and today, looking on RTT nothing much until 7th October (except the odd freight train which I expect is yet to be cancelled or re-pathed and what looks like measurement trains).

that’s a (very) approximate 150 trains a day, of which about 80% are GWR services, the reminder being freight, and quite a few of those being electrification trains from Swindon. Not an insignificant amount of trains to re-path! Anyway - presume this is connected as they come from/goto/vis parkway mostly?

There are Freight paths shown on RTT but they may not necessarily run. In other words, the path is protected

Going by a leaflet that I picked up in Wakefield, it states that Bristol Parkway is closed on Saturday 1st December - is this work part of the blockade or is it something to do with the Filton works? The leaflet seems vauge.
