So if I've read this correctly, it looks as if the embedded season ticket should have been cancelled, but instead they cancelled the physical card?
The intention is to cancel the whole card, as I understand it. The card number is supposed to be added to a blocklist which should prevent the gates from opening or a touch being registered. For some reason that didn't happen in this case, or at least not at the start station.

I don’t think you can remotely unload a product from an Oyster card. You can do so in person face to face at a TfL Visitor Centre or National Rail ticket office that retails Oyster. But that is all.

I can't immediately think what the plural of Madam is, but I'd be tempted to change "Dear Sirs" to something more inclusive!
"To whom it may concern" or similar would be more appropriate to avoid any reference to gender, as "Dear Sir/Madam" might not be fully inclusive.

Will the title of "Sir" or "Madam" be changed to remove gender references? I don't think this is currently planned; until there are such plans I think it is fine to continue to use the phrase. It is a phrase of turn in much the way "Yours sincerely" is (even though in many cases that might be the ending to a very snotty letter!). I think people realise it is a little "out of touch" because I very much doubt the actual reader/recipient will have the title in question!

It's not "Dear Sir/Madam", but "Dear sir/madam", nothing to do with someone having been knighted or whatever.

Not sure if it’s relevsnt but I had an old Oyster card st home with £12 on it. I cancell3d it and transferred the cash to my current OYSTERCARD which has an annual season ticket on it and cash for outer boundary journeys.

I nominated the station for transfer and on entering the outstanding cash and deposit was transferred but with an odd narrative.

When I got to my destination I checked the history on the old card and the cash was still there. I touched in and entered the station and asked a member of staff if the ticket was still valid. She told me it was. I said to them thst I thought it had been cancelled and transferred and she looked at my current ticket and said the narrative used wasn’t a transfer of product. The lady cancelled my entry on the machine and suggested I call the TFL helpdesk. When I did they said the card had been cancelled and there was no cash remaining. The cash showed as still visible 3 days later on the 4th day it disappeared.

I my experience, what the ticket machines or staff tell you when you present an Oystercard to them is different to what the ticket barriers tell you. Its as if the ticket barriers are 'live', and the machines are not. I've had problems with my child's Zip Oystercard - the staff and ticket machines saying its valid, and the barriers saying 'No'.

Mesdames
A plural should only be used when writing to a partnership. The salutation should be in the singular when writing to an incorporated body.
