SWR's timetable changes are pretty trivial compared to the Thameslink and Southern changes going on at the moment, wouldn't you say?
Possibly but they are going up to 24 or is it 25 trains an hour more than they do now. Just as Thameslink will be 24 trains through the core. So there is an increase.

Also they are wishing to decrease the time it takes. I don't know if Thameslink are doing that.

Not on the Windsor side. Complete recast there.
But not on the entire network. I still say the overall changes on SWT aresignificanrly less than those taking place on the GTR network.
Even on the Windsor side, 4 tph to Reading already tuns in the peaks, and 4 tph to Windsor is mainly achieved by changing the Weybridge service to a shuttle.
Key changes on the Portsmouth direct are to run an extra train between Haslemere and Portsmouth; and on the Southampton - Weymouth route the number of trains running overall is the same as before.

According to local news SWR have confirmed that in response to the consultation that the Exeter to London trains post 2018 will now not call at Woking at all, even in off peak, with the stop being switched to Clapham due in part to the really annoying Ben Bradshaw MP protesting. Whilst I understand the need to connect for Gatwick, what about Heathrow/Guildford and also does anyone have the existing proposed timetables to establish what the new connections for Basingstoke will be like for Woking to Exeter assuming other timetables remain as proposed?

I'm sure South Western Railway said their hadn't been any major changes to the timetable since 2004. Anyway I do take your point that it's not as big as the changes on GTR.

The actual times (throughout the network) appear to be completely changing too, so while the frequencies are by and large the same, it's the first time since 2004 there's been a big change.
Certainly one of the biggest changes since the early 80s.

The 2004 timetable has been remarkably static, lasting 14 years with only minor amendments. Contrast that to the late BR and early SWT years when we had major changes in 1989, 1997 and 1999 and signficant changes on some lines - if not all - in 1988, 1990, and just about annually from 1992 to 1994 if I remember right. While the 1989 and 1990 timetables were major improvements, the last period was a depressing one; a recession-led decline that resulted in only two trains an hour south of Guildford in the 93/94 timetable, one fast (81) and one all stations (82) - but does anyone then remember the somewhat-bizarre Waterloo-non stop via Cobham-Guildford-all stations to Haslemere that ran during the 1994/95 timetable every hour off-peak (allowing the '82' to miss out Milford and Witley)?

Does anyone know if the original proposed timetables are still available anywhere? SWR's website now only has the consultation outcome document available.
