I'm Impressed … five out of five, well done …. it's your floor!

Regarding the reason for Johnny Briggs's early departure from 633 Squadron, he did fly into a mountain whilst they were practising for the mission, so you're right. However, I wondered whether anyone knew that the story (as told in his autobiography - and no, I haven't read all of it, just this bit!) goes that he should have had a longer part in the film, but fell out with the Director, who changed the script and had him fly into the mountain!

Anyone know the answer to the last question?

The answer to the question that Deltic1989 couldn't give is "No Sex, Please, We're British", which closed on 5th September 1987 after 6,671 performances.

That soap actor...wasn't that little Scottish bloke who played a cook in "Crossroads" also in 633 squadron?

I'd forgotten that he was in 633 Squadron, but he was, playing Flying Officer "Hoppy" Hopkinson, Wing Commander Roy Grant's (played by Cliff Robertson) navigator.

He also played Shughie McFee, the cook in Crossroads, in which he was, I think, famous for going into the kitchen in one episode and not coming back out for about four years! He also played Flying Officer Ives "The Mole", who was shot whilst trying to escape - this happened to the real character on which he was based.

Anyway, after all that … I'll agree to Deltic1989's offer to make it an open floor.

American Pie (Chevy)
Pink Cadillac
Love Shack (Chrysler)
Driving in my Car (Jaguar, Morris)

That's four. I can "hear" loads of other snippets of lyrics in my head, but I'm struggling to think of the song titles.

Would Mustang Sally count? It's a model rather than a make.

The first 4 qualify on the basis that I said make.
Mustang Sally makes it 5 (It counts because I worded the question incorrectly, and should have indicated that models were ok too).

I do like music quizzes, so I'm going to stick with the same format. Considering the current weather conditions:

Name Five Songs Which Have the word "Rain" in the title

Assuming "raining" also counts, here's five:

It's Raining Men
Singing in the Rain
The Rain in Spain (Falls Mainly in the Plain)
Come Rain or Come Shine
It's Raining, it's Pouring (The Old Man is Snoring)

Ha ha. Staying with music here is one I would find easy but some may not. Name 5 bands from Norway. I could be wrong and everyone knows loads of bands from Norway but I'll throw it out there. Ha ha.

I don't know if they're my cuppa, as I've only heard of one of them. ;)
Ha ha, let me guess which one, Raining Blood? They are all by relatively well known bands. I would guess the most obscure is Colossal Rains by Paradise Lost but even they play high up the bill at metal festivals. Naked In The Rain was a popular pop song in the UK, not sure globally.

A-Ha and TNT are the only ones that leap to mind for me.

Purple rain is the one that rang a bell to me, though I'm not sure if I could hum the tune.

I later remembered Enya's "A Day Without Rain", but too late to include in the list.

You need to listen to more Black Metal, or perhaps not. Ha ha you could answer the question in seconds.

Love Enya. Brings back happy memories of listening to Orinoco Flow on a bus journey through the Tyrol. My taste in music has changed since somewhat. Ha ha.

As we've seemingly stalled, here's a new question:

What do the following songs have in common:
  • I Want it That Way - Backstreet Boys
  • Happy - Pharrell Williams
  • Bad - Michael Jackson
  • Lola - The Kinks
  • Lose Yourself - Emimem
  • Like a Virgin - Madonna

A further clue: the person that connects all these songs belongs to a rather exclusive club, shared only with Michael Jackson, Madonna, and U2.

I'm going to say Weird Al Yankovic. I know that a couple of those have been parodied by him.
Like a Virgin - Like a Surgeon
Bad - Fat
Gangtas Paradise - Amish Paradise
I know there was a parody of I want it that way, called Which Backstreet Boy is Gay? But I'm not sure if that was Weird Al or not.
EDIT - No I want it that way was I bought on Ebay.

That is indeed the link (or person) that I was looking for. Along with Michael Jackson, Madonna, and U2, Weird Al Yankovic has nailed a US top 40 hit in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and this decade.

"Which backstreet boy is gay" was a song by some other group. Back in the days of mp3 sharing via the likes of Napster, putting Al's name on a file meant that more people would download it. Al's own songs are generally much more tasteful that that.

The parodies of the other titles I listed are Yoda, Smells like Nirvana, Tacky, Addicted to Spuds, and Couch Potato. (Matching them up is left as an exercise for the reader.)

Your floor, Deltic1989...

I thought as much when I remembered "I bought on Ebay".

Which car company, initially founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company, was forced to change it's name after WWII to avoid the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials?
